It's that time of year! It's time to dig in the dirt and plant some flowers! I've found one great way to instantly add some fun and color to a front porch, back deck or patio is by filling planters with fun flowers and plants. So together with HomeTalk, I created a fun Tower Planter board, complete with 15 different fun tower planter ideas! Among the tower planter ideas I shared on the board is my own flower tower, which has graced my home's backyard patio for at least two springs and summers now! The tower is great because it adds visual interest to my home's patio and adds a lot of Continue reading...
Follow Friday (#FF) March 20
Happy Friday, everyone! Today is one of my favorite days of the week, because today is the day when I share some fantastic projects from some of my favorite bloggers for Follow Friday (#ff)! I really adore the rabbit door hanger for spring by Paula of Sweet Pea. It doesn't look too difficult to make, and it is so sweet! It would be the perfect door accessory for Easter! I love Eat Sleep Be's Tutorial on How to Start a Backyard Garden -- I can see why I always get so many weeds in my home's raised gardens ... I don't use enough mulch! I gotta get some work done on my raised gardens for Continue reading...
DIY Garden Flag for St. Patrick’s Day
*This post contains Amazon affiliate links. The snow is piling up here in New Jersey, but I am already dreaming of spring! That's because St. Patrick's Day is a month away, and I know that the daffodils in my garden bloom about then! So today I am sharing the really easy to make St. Patrick's Day DIY garden flag that I made for my home's front yard garden. The flag is really simple to make and is much less expensive than the flags you can purchase in stores. With St. Patricks Day coming up, I wanted to hang a St.Patrick's Day-themed garden flag in my yard. But I am always surprised at how Continue reading...
My Sunny Summer Garden
I just love summer! There are sunny days at the beach, lots of time to spend with my husband and kids, and the beautiful flowers in my perennial garden! The garden is on the sunny southern side of my home, so it really flourishes under the summer sun! What's even better is that my sunny summer garden is just outside my living room's window, so I can enjoy my summer garden even when I am inside! I put in my garden just last summer, and I can't believe how much it has flourished since then! The photo above is of my beautiful black-eyed susans. They have been blooming all summer! I started Continue reading...
Summer Flowers: Black Eyed Susans
I started my sunny perennial garden last summer knowing that while I am not that much of a gardener, I just love flowers! Luckily, I planted pretty foolproof flowers like lilies, phlox and black eyed susans (Rudbeckia hirta). So this summer, I am the lucky owner of a beautiful flower garden! The best bloomers in my garden are my black-eyed susans. I planted them last summer -- they came from a free packet of seeds I got from Burt's Bees. I had no idea what would bloom from those seeds, but just crossed my fingers and planted them! Last summer they just looked like weeds with no blooms, but Continue reading...
Summer Patio: Hot Shot Insecticides
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hot Shot® Insecticides. I love summer, but I don't like the increase of bugs and insects it brings to my home! It's as if summer signals vacation time to the critters, and my house is their vacation home! So, when I was offered the chance to try out Hot Shot® insecticides, I jumped at the chance! I don't want those pests to make my patio their home sweet home! My husband and I put in a really great paver patio a few years ago. It's a wonderful place for our wrought iron patio set and for our new Weber gas grill -- I am becoming a bit of a Continue reading...
Mom Home Guide House Tour
*This post contains affiliate links. I just love looking at online house tours of other mom bloggers’ homes. To me, my home is a work in progress. Over the past few months, I’ve completed a few home improvements, like decorating and furnishing my home's living room, making my home’s mudroom/foyer area more functional, creating a fun study/media/play space for the kids and adding more privacy to my home’s backyard. There are several more projects I’d like to complete — some of the wishes on my wish list include hardwood flooring and making our unfinished basement more livable, but I am not Continue reading...
Prep Your Outdoor Spaces for Summer
Editor's Note: I am working on some new projects for the blog today, so I thought I'd share this post from Mom Home Guide's archives. Many of these projects are on my to-do list for this year: I really need to paint the Adirondack chairs and I have to plant my flower tower for this summer! I am a HUGE fan of Sarah, who runs the Thrifty Decor Chick mom / home decor blog. I want to ready my outdoor spaces for summer entertaining, so I decided to check out her blog, Thrifty Decor Chick. Sarah has an incredible eye for design and is a fantastic DIYer! Plus, her home is beautiful! Continue reading...
Mason Jar Succulents
A few weekends ago, my family and I were invited to a wonderful backyard barbecue with good friends. Three of my great "mom" friends were there, so I decided to make them all personalized gifts. I made a potted succulent plant for each friend -- I planted the succulents in pretty green mason jars. I think this gift is wonderful for anyone who adores plants. Potted succulents also make for lovely teacher appreciation or end of the year gifts! This gift might even please some dads for Father's Day! I found some great succulents at my local Wal-Mart store. Succulents are hardy plants that have Continue reading...
How to Make a DIY Bird Bath
Hi, everyone! The below post is an oldie but goodie here at Mom Home Guide. My spring garden is looking beautiful right now with all the daffodils and tulips that my daughters helped me plant last fall. (Thanks, girls!) I hope to get into the garden and plant some more flowers soon. I also have to make sure that I keep our bird feeder filled and bird bath replenished with water so the birds will keep coming to our garden! Enjoy my how to make a DIY bird bath tutorial! It's been a few weeks since I planted my flower garden. Now that my garden is complete, I have been Continue reading...
