Now that I’ve completed painting the owl and tree mural feature wall for my kids’ new study and media space, I’ve been dreaming about organizing and painting my home office.
Right now, the office has boxes everywhere (of things I need to file) and features plain, unpainted white walls. So boring! I thought something bright and cheery would be great for the office, and have been thinking that the room would look quite nice in a combination of yellows and blues. Most of my home is very neutral with soft greens and yellowy beiges, so I thought that something more colorful would be fun!
Yesterday, I spotted Jenna’s new blue and yellow home office on her blog, SAS Interiors, and I was inspired! I thought that a similar yellow and blue palette would work great for my office. Also, one of my daughters loves blue, so if she and her sister decide that they no longer want to share a bedroom when they hit their tween years, the color would be a good fit for her. (The other daughter prefers pink and red, but those colors wouldn’t work for me for a home office.)
So, today, I scoured the Web for yellow and blue room combinations, and found some beautiful things! A really great resource I found was the Benjamin Moore website, where the paint retailer discusses color trends for 2013. I liked the New Traditional palette, especially the blue “evening dove” color and the yellow “golden straw” hue. I thought my office would look great with most of the walls in “golden straw,” and an accent wall in “evening dove.” If I could add a cheery yellow chevron print — say, in the curtains or in an upholstered chair — that would be great.
So, I went to PicMonkey.com, and used the website’s collage function to create an inspiration board for a new home office. I think it looks great. What do you think?

I love this colour combination! Just finished our laundry/mud room and we did yellow and a dark turquoise blue. I hopped over from Get Schooled Saturday.
