When I became pregnant with twin girls about 12 years ago, I had no idea how complicated my pregnancy would become. At two months before my girls were due to be born, my children had to be delivered via an emergency C-section. That’s because my pre-eclampsia and worsening health put all our lives at risk. My twins were born healthy, but small, and had to be hospitalized in the NICU for a month. So, I am thrilled to be sharing information with you about Kangu, a non-profit organization that provides life-saving services for expectant moms and their babies. I know how important medical care can be during a pregnancy — were it not for the expert medical care my daughters and I received during my pregnancy and my twins’ delivery, it’s possible that my children and I wouldn’t be here today.
I can totally get behind the aim of Kangu — to provide every woman in the world with a safe birth and to prevent maternal and newborn deaths. At Kangu.org, people like you and me can help another woman in the world have a safe birth by providing a monetary donation. That’s pretty cool! That donation will go toward helping an expectant mother receive healthcare services before, during and after delivery so the best outcome is possible for both her and her child.
Did you know that every day 800 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth? That’s 300,000 women a year who die needlessly — 99% of these preventable deaths happen in developing countries. That number is heart-breaking!
At Kangu.org, a person looking to help can search profiles of pregnant women in need and help eliminate the financial barrier that could prevent that woman and her newborn from receiving quality medical care.
Kangu helps women and their newborns throughout the world through “crowdfunding” — technology that enables individuals to join together as a community to raise money they all believe in. The services that Kangu provides to soon-to-be mamas and their babies are provided by vetted local partners and are proven to reduce maternal and newborn deaths by as much as 80%!
