A Day In the Life of a “Suburban Housewife”

October 24, 2020 By Lauren

By: Erica Kortepeter-Ragan (Guest Post) Today I am doing something different - I am sharing an essay by my friend, Erica Kortepeter-Ragan. Erica Kortepeter-Ragan is passionate about the causes of women of the past and present. She wrote this article in response to the recent public comments of President Trump that perpetuate the myth of a suburban housewife who sits at home without anything else to do but wear aprons and bake pies. Erica's grandmother was an original suburban housewife and even then did not “fit” this mold. In reality, she was a true “Rosie the Riveter,” who Continue reading...

Early Morning Routine for a Night Owl

September 12, 2014 By Lauren

This post is sponsored by Cottonelle. I bet this sounds like a lot of moms' early morning routines. Your morning schedule starts early, so you get dressed in 10 minutes or less and throw on sweats before seeing your kids off to school. That's my routine this year! My husband and I are night owls, and I get up at 6 a.m. to make breakfast and help my kids out the door, so I've been very sleep deprived! So, I've developed a quick routine to make myself presentable enough to walk my kids to the bus stop. Now, I don't actually have to walk them to the bus stop (none of the other Continue reading...

June has been a very busy month here at Mom Home Guide! My twin girls are graduating elementary school this year (time has flown!) and there is so much to do, what with graduation events and parties, and normal end of the year stuff like school trips, school concerts and events and dance and music recitals. So whenever there is a chance to simplify my daily routine, I am all for it! One thing that I do daily Continue reading...

Henna Tattoo Girls Night Out

June 4, 2013 By Lauren

Om, henna, tattoo

Follow my blog with Bloglovin I am not a fan of tattoos of the permanent variety, but recently, two girlfriends of mine and our daughters got together for a mini henna party! It was my first henna / mendhi tattoo, and because the all-natural henna paste only leaves a design that lasts on the skin for less than two weeks, I was willing to try it. My friend Sejal, who applied my mendhi tattoo, learned her craft in India from a sister and is quite good at it! I believe it took her less than 30 minutes to apply the tattoos for my friend, Karen, and I, and for two of our daughters. Henna Continue reading...

Where I Party — Linky Parties

February 26, 2013 By Lauren

Today, I will be hitting a few mom blog linky parties, where I like to share my projects, and look at other great projects from other bloggers. One place where I am sure to stop by today is Home Stories A to Z.  This mom blogger hosts a tutorials and tips party every Monday. It's a fun place to find fun crafts to do with your kids or to find decor projects you can do for your home. I also plan to stop by Not Just a Housewife, where she is hosting her "Show Me What Ya Got" party on her mom blog -- there are already a lot of great home decor and organization projects Continue reading...

Fall Nesting Party

Welcome, Autumn! (20 Things I Love About Fall)

October 1, 2012 By Lauren

Fall Nesting Party

Now that the weather is getting cooler, I am excited about fall and the fun activities that my family and I can share together the next few months. So to get in the spirit of the season, I decided to share the 20 things that I love most about the fall: 1. Fall walks in the woods and the sight and smell of autumn leaves 2. Watching my kids make huge piles of leaves in the yard to jump in 3. Brewing cups of mulled apple cider for my kids 4. Snuggling under warm comforters on cool autumn nights 5. Fall movie nights with the family and big bowls of buttery Continue reading...

Night Owls Unite

August 1, 2012 By Lauren

night owl

As I write this post (at nearly 11:30 p.m.), the rest of my family is fast asleep. Whicn is odd -- on a normal night, my husband stays up past midnight watching late-night news shows and his favorite flicks, while my kids wake up at least once or twice to extra get hugs and kisses before settling in for the night. I should be checking in, too. I was so tired today -- while waiting to see the doctor at a checkup, I was so exhausted that I felt like I was going to fall off the table! But I am just getting started, and have so much I want to do! Something about a quiet house is so Continue reading...

Does Danger Lurk in Your Closets?

February 24, 2012 By Lauren

Since having kids, my clothing style has morphed into what is definitely recognizable as “mommy fashion.” In my closet, you’ll find a few pair of dependable, but not exactly fashionable “mommy jeans,” as well as sweatshirts and sweatpants that I can throw on when I want to feel comfortable or don’t want to worry about what I am wearing. Now, a good deal of my “fashion” choice (if you could call it that) is caused by my non-skinny waistline. While I once had an enviable physique and ran at least three miles a day, now that I have kids, I am lucky if I get in any exercise in at all. So, Continue reading...
