DIY Snowflake Wood Slice Ornaments

November 17, 2020 By Lauren

diy snowflake wood slice ornament with a buffalo plaid ribbon

This post contains Amazon affiliate links. This year, I chose to put up a beautiful rustic minimal Christmas tree. The tree is 6 feet high and just 2 feet wide, so it is the perfect size for displaying in my living room's bay window. I thought it would be sweet to have a simpler rustic/homespun vibe this year, so I made all the trimmings (on a tight budget) for the tree myself. In all, I think I only spent about $20 decorating the tree. (That's a small budget!) One of the elements I made for the tree are inexpensive wood slice snowflake ornaments painted with a muted green and blue. I Continue reading...

Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup

November 10, 2020 By Lauren

With the slow cooker split pea soup recipe I am sharing today, you simply just cook the peas in hot water with spices and veggies for a few hours. It turns out that with a slow cooker, it's quite easy to make home-cooked split pea soup! Slow Cooker Split Pea Recipe This recipe couldn't be easier! I just added some dry split peas, chopped carrots, water and Continue reading...

A Day In the Life of a “Suburban Housewife”

October 24, 2020 By Lauren

By: Erica Kortepeter-Ragan (Guest Post) Today I am doing something different - I am sharing an essay by my friend, Erica Kortepeter-Ragan. Erica Kortepeter-Ragan is passionate about the causes of women of the past and present. She wrote this article in response to the recent public comments of President Trump that perpetuate the myth of a suburban housewife who sits at home without anything else to do but wear aprons and bake pies. Erica's grandmother was an original suburban housewife and even then did not “fit” this mold. In reality, she was a true “Rosie the Riveter,” who Continue reading...
