cool art prints for the home

For the past few weeks, I've been working on redesigning my home’s living room. I am hoping to move the room from its staid traditional/formal look to something more fun!So when Minted.com gave me the opportunity to review their limited edition art prints, I jumped at the chance! Minted, which is well known for its birth announcements, offers a great collection of unique art prints from artists from around the world. The prices for the art is reasonable, and you can customize a print of your choice by choosing your print’s color scheme, size and frame. Custom Art for the Continue reading...

DIY St. Patricks Day Flag

March 4, 2014 By Lauren

St. Patrick's Day garden flag

Now that St. Patricks Day is coming up, I'm getting ready to get out some emerald green decor! But since I am spending so much time in rehab trying to get my broken wrist back up to speed, I am running a bit late. So I am sharing this cute DIY St. Patricks Day flag that I shared a year ago on the blog. With St. Patricks Day coming up, I wanted to hang a St.Patrick's Day-themed flag in my garden. But I am always surprised at how much those tiny garden flags cost. For instance, a Leprehaun hat garden flag runs about $9 at Amazon.com. So, using the leftover fabric from Continue reading...

“Rooms Repurposed” — Making Your Home Work for You

February 23, 2014 By Lauren

meditation room

A few months ago, I shared with you my friend Christine's awesome black and white craft room. Christine converted what might have been only a lightly used space in her home -- an area that would normally be a dining room -- and converted it into a striking craft room, complete with hand-crafted black and white decor, a card catalog for fabric storage and a highly functional sewing table. I am so excited because that room is now one of the inspiring spaces featured in Cristin Frank's new book, Rooms Repurposed: A Purposeful Home, A Purposeful Life, available on Amazon.com! What Continue reading...

Hand-Stenciled Valance

February 21, 2014 By Lauren

stenciled no sew valence

Happy Friday, everyone! I am still little bit behind on things, since I have been working on rehabbing my wrist (which I broke in January). I have been feeling a little down about the wrist (since I am not sure how the metal plate and screws will affect my wrist's mobility in the future), so I decided to share with you one of my favorite projects from last year. I sewed and hand-stenciled this valance for my home's powder room last year. I think the valance has a great message and is uplifting, since it has powerful and hopeful words like "love" and "family" stenciled on it. You should try Continue reading...

West Elm Yellow, Brown and Gray Living Room

January 10, 2014 By Lauren

west elm, gray, brown, yellow, living room, design

I am hoping to redecorate my home's living room, and I am so excited! For my Christmas gift, my husband made me a popsicle stick sofa (so cute) and said I could go shopping for a sofa. I can't wait! I've done a little shopping so far, and at the moment, I am crushing on West Elm! I love their modern color schemes and their small-scale furniture, which should work for my small living room. I am loving a yellow, brown and gray color scheme. I have my eye on the Paidge sofa. Isn't it cute? At 72.5"w x 38.5"d x 34.5"h., I think it would fit well in my home's small 20 foot x 10 foot living Continue reading...

mom home guide, 2013, year in review

Happy 2014, everyone! I can't believe that 2013 is over! Last year was a busy one here at Mom Home Guide. So, before launching my new projects for 2014, I am going to share the best of what I accomplished in 2013! Here is my 2013 Mom Home Guide Year in Review. Burlap Crafts Burlap was popular in 2013, so like many crafters, I jumped onto the burlap bandwagon in 2013. It was fun! Two of my favorite burlap crafts I completed was my stenciled no-sew burlap valance for my home's downstairs powder room, and my no-sew fringed burlap table runner. Both projects were problem solvers, as I was having Continue reading...

Christmas Advent Calendar Boxes

December 3, 2013 By Lauren

craft, Christmas advent calendar boxes, plate

Now that December is here, my kids absolutely cannot wait for Christmas! So, I came up with the idea of creating cute numbered advent calendar boxes -- my kids can open one up each day as we count down to Christmas. Yesterday, I created a few advent calendar boxes, for 23, 22, 21, 20 and 19 days until Christmas. I'll eventually add the other boxes as we get closer to Christmas! In each box, I nestled yummy treats, stickers, and  other fun finds. They opened the 23 days until Christmas box yesterday to find a large piece of bubble gum each. They were happy to get the gum! I got my Continue reading...

Christmas Decorating

Christmas, tree, lights, 2012, decorate

My Recollections ornament boxes makes unpacking the Christmas ornaments so much easier.  It snowed here in New Jersey yesterday. My daughters were so excited! I am trying to wait until after Thanksgiving to decorate for Christmas, but I know at least one of my daughters would like to start decorating for the Christmas holiday NOW! Especially since the snow has put them both in the holiday spirit -- one of my daughters has been wearing a Santa's hat to bed every night already! Christmas Organization Thanks to some organizing I did just after last Christmas, Continue reading...

Fall Mason Jar Candles

October 20, 2013 By Lauren

fall mason jar candles with autumn nuts

I have been loving all the fun mason jar crafts  and fall mantles I've been seeing on Pinterest, and have been wanting to make some of my own! So when my daughters and I collected a whole bunch of nuts from underneath a local tree, I knew I had a project on my hands! (I think the nuts are hazel nuts, but I am not sure!) My Fall Mantle I had just started my fall mantle, so I thought some autumn mason jar candles would be a good addition! I first got started with my fall mantle by adding fall-themed stickers to an inexpensive stretched burlap canvas that I had purchased at my Continue reading...

Storage for Kids Rooms

September 10, 2013 By Lauren

This post contains Amazon affilate links. Finding enough storage in children’s bedrooms can be tough, but if you buy furniture and accessories with storage in mind, you should be able to find plenty of storage for kids rooms. My daughters, used to enjoy sharing a room together. (They have since gotten their own rooms.) So, when I chose the children's furniture for their room, I chose children's furniture that would give us the most space as possible for storing their things. Their room is fairly large, but not that big, considering that we must fit two twin beds in there, a dresser, Continue reading...

burlap table runner, how to, tutorial

Editor's Note: This project, which I made earlier this year, is very popular on Mom Home Guide and would be a great fall craft! So I am reposting this post on how to make a burlap table runner. Maybe I will make a new fall-themed burlap table runner soon! I will share it on the blog if I do! I am so excited -- today I am guest posting for the mom blog, 5MinutesforMom! This Canadian mom blog is a great place for moms and features everything from DIY and craft tutorials, to giveaways to recipes. For 5MinutesforMom, I wrote about a very fun DIY craft I did for my home's dining table. I've Continue reading...

New Tween Bathroom Decor

August 12, 2013 By Lauren

bathroom, remodel, decor

Recently, I finally got around to updating my kids' bathroom. Even though my daughters are tweens now, their bathroom until only a few days ago still sported the same kids decor that I put up for them when they were toddlers. So, I decided to take down the tot stuff and add some tween bathroom decor. I am the sentimental type -- it's hard for me to get rid of toys, even home decor, that remind me of my children's younger days -- it's difficult for me to let go when they graduate to the next stage of childhood! Everything seems to happen way too quickly for me. I can't believe Continue reading...

Stenciled Burlap Curtain

August 8, 2013 By Lauren

stenciled curtain

Lately, I've been noticing beautiful stenciled burlap curtains and projects on Pinterest and on other blogs. I especially like the stenciled burlap pillows that I found on blog, Ugly Duckling Transformations -- beautiful! So I decided to make a stenciled burlap curtain for my home's downstairs bathroom -- the bathroom that guests to our home usually see. Faux Stenciled Burlap Curtain I like the look of burlap, but I wanted my stenciled burlap curtain to look a little more modern, so I chose a heavy but smooth piece of scrap fabric from my local Joann Continue reading...

Black and White Craft Room Design

Last month, I shared photos of my friend Christine's fabulous dining room turned craft room. I think her new craft room design is just amazing! I received a lot of questions about her beautiful craft room design, so I asked her if she could spill some more details. Being the awesome person that she is, of course she gave me more info about her room renovation, as well as some great photos! Before and After Considering all the great textures and vibe in her craft room design, I was totally surprised to see her craft room's before picture. Can you believe that her craft room Continue reading...

Striped Chalkboard Paint Wall

July 14, 2013 By Lauren

striped, chalkboard paint wall, lullaby paints

This past spring, I created a fun hangout / study space / playroom for my kids in an upstairs hallway. The hallway used to have a big desk in it that nobody in my family was using and bare, white walls. So I decided to make the large hallway into a cool space my kids could use. A new feature of the wall is our a striped chalkboard paint wall. I painted a green accent wall, added a fun wall decal and added some beanbag chairs and a TV. Now, my daughters like to play and read on their Kindles and watch TV in the new hangout space / playroom. I also moved their Calico Continue reading...

Glam Party Room

The other day, my daughters went to a fun party with friends at a local place called Pinky Toes Party Palace in Robbinsville, NJ. At the party, they got manicures and pedicures, had a mini tea party (and learned some tea-time etiquette) and danced with their friends. The party place had the cutest decor! I loved the cute dining table that the party place set up for the kids (below). I thought the simple but cute covers on the chairs are adorable. I love the black painted walls up top and the cool flowers painted on the walls. The glamorous chandelier is also a fun Continue reading...

Black and White Craft Room Design

June 24, 2013 By Lauren

black, white, craft, room, remodel

Do you have a space in your home that’s not being used to its full potential? My friend Christine did, so she turned it into a rocking craft space! Dining/Living Space Turned Craft Room The space she converted into her craft space is just off her home’s kitchen and would normally be used as a dining or living room area. But Christine, who does wonders with a sewing machine (she created a beautiful parade banner for our Girl Scout troop) and is quite handy (she built a dollhouse for her daughter with working lights), decided the space would work better as her crafting area. The craft Continue reading...

DIY, install, door, hardware, lock

Guest Post by Doug Harris Some projects in your home can wait for the perfect time – lots of outdoor projects, for example, are best done on a beautiful summer day. But changing your old door lock isn't one of those projects. Whether it's a lost key or a broken lock, replacing your door lock is an essential piece of home maintenance that needs to be done right away. But how do you change a lock? How do you install new door hardware? Which kind of door locks are the safest? Let’s take a look at some answers. Most "home entry" door locks, i.e. front and back door, are deadbolts. I am a HUGE fan of Sarah, who runs the Thrifty Decor Chick mom / home decor blog. I want to ready my outdoor spaces for summer, so I decided to check out her blog, Thrifty Decor Chick. Sarah has an incredible eye for design and is a fantastic DIYer! Plus, her home is beautiful! I just love looking at her Thrifty Decor Chick blog and seeing how she has transformed her home. Sarah has made a whole bunch of videos for Home Depot, including this one on how to prepare your outdoor spaces, deck or patio for entertaining this summer. Her tips are so great that I decided to share them on Mom Continue reading...

Love for Lilies

May 14, 2013 By Lauren

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of iBulb for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine. I have long been a big fan of lilies. My parents grew lilies in the backyards both of my childhood's homes when I was growing up, so I have a sentimental attachment to them. It is easy to remember the beautiful patch of orange day lilies that grew in our backyards. I always remember the lilies as a hallmark of the many fun summers that I spent in my backyard with my family. Now that I am a homeowner, I have planted both orange and yellow day lilies in my flower beds, and I just love Continue reading...
