When I was laid off from my full-time writing and editing job seven years ago, I was a loss with what to do. My twin daughters were in preschool, and I knew I wanted to work while somehow somehow spending more time with them. I had no idea how to start a blog, and didn’t even know that I would start a blog!
When I worked full time, I found that when I got home from work, all I had time to do was feed my twin babies, give them a bath and put them to bed — not much quality time there!
So, Mom Home Guide was born from my desire to spend more time with my kids! Writing and running my blog has been terrific — I’ve learned how to make an income from my blog. I’ve also made a lot of great blogging friends, and even went to my first blog conference last summer! (The Haven blog conference.) Launching and running a blog is great for moms who want to be home more — you can work from home, meet a lot of other terrific moms bloggers and grow professionally.
Launching a Blog
For me, learning how to launch and host a blog was one of the first big hurdles. I made a few mistakes until I got it right! Luckily, companies like HostGator.com make starting and launching a blog so much easier! (I didn’t know about HostGator.com when I got started.) HostGator.com offers an easy to use website builder, a one-stop shop for domains, design services (if you don’t want to design your site on your own), marketing and blog services (e.g., they have in-house experts to help you generate traffic) and one click WordPress installs. Plus, HostGator.com offers 24/7 live support via chat, phone and email — I know 24/7 support is important — it always seems to be late at night when a website crashes or some other problem crops up!
