Halloween is on a Saturday this year, so it’s a perfect day to host a party! My daughters are tweens now, so they’d love to have some friends over for a get-together before they go out trick or treating! But my daughters’ schedules are so busy, so I came up with an inexpensive Halloween tablescape and table runner that can be thrown together in just minutes! This tablescape is perfect for setting up a buffet of pizza and of course … some yummy candy! (I chose to go with Hershey’s chocolates!)
I decided to set up the tablescape on the pool table in my home’s family room. The table is large and close to our flatscreen TV, so my daughters and their friends can grab some pizza and some Hershey’s chocolates and watch their favorite Halloween movie on TV!
I started out with a blank pool table (we usually keep a vinyl cover on the table to keep dust off the playing surface) and a roll of brown kraft paper.
Then I brought in two large large variety Hershey’s candy bags. The chocolates will add lots of fun to my daughter’s party (how can you go wrong with chocolate?), and I just love the fun colors and images on the bags! I made sure to choose bags that contain some of my family’s favorite candy: Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Twizzlers, Kit Kats and Jolly Ranchers.
I cut a length of Kraft paper that spans the entire length of my family room’s pool table. Then I used my two large variety bags of Hershey’s chocolate, Halloween washi tape, Halloween cardstock die-cuts (that I had purchased for scrapbooking with my kids), washable magic markers and some Halloween stencils to decorate my new paper Halloween table runner. (The stencils were also from my scrapbooking stash.)
The table runner is designed so that the kids can draw and stencil on it at their party, but I had fun getting the table runner started! Stenciling can be quite relaxing and enjoyable!
For the party, I can going to leave out the stencils and the washable markers, so my daughters and their friends can add their own touches to the table runner — the table runner can also be a souvenir that my kids can save from their party!
I know that my kids will want to add their own touches to our DIY Halloween table runner and tablescape before their party!
I found my large variety Hershey’s candy bags in the special Halloween section at my local Walmart. The Hershey’s bags of candy were quite easy to find! I also got my Kraft paper and my magic markers at Walmart — I found them in the craft section in the back of the store. I was glad to get everything I needed in one store!
Be sure to check out the Hershey’s Halloween Candy at Walmart. I’d love to hear what your favorite is!

This is such a great idea, my daughter loves to color so this would be perfect for her and her crafty friends! I have eaten WAY too much Halloween candy lately! But, it is so good!

Thanks, Carrie! I had stop myself and make sure I left room on the table runner for my daughters and their friends to add their artwork!

I could totally see doing this at Thanksgiving time also – a great way to personalize and give thanks! LOVE how you made it simple and decorative, but still left room for the imagination. #client

Thanks for the idea, Samantha! It would be fun to make an easy table runner like this for Thanksgiving … and for Christmas, too! (Plus it will make my otherwise boring covered pool table fun!)
