SmartWings Motorized Cellular Shades—A Review

I recently replaced both blinds in one of my home’s bedrooms with SmartWings Motorized Light Filtering Cellular Shades Nowa, and they are exactly what I wanted! These beautiful, well-crafted window coverings give the room a fresh, updated look while also making it more comfortable.

Lately, I’ve been working on turning the space into a pup-safe room where my dog can stay when he’s home alone. (He now stays in the kitchen in a metal enclosure that’s small and a pain to set up!) Both of my kids have relocated out of state since graduating from college last year, and my daughter gave me the green light to use her room as a little den of sorts for our pup!

Custom Fit SmartWings Cellular Shades for Your Window

Whether you choose custom SmartWings shades or draperies, you can order them to exactly fit your windows’ measurements on the SmartWings website—that beats having to visit a showroom or have a salesperson visit your home!

To get started, I selected the fabric for my motorized cellular shades, opting for Leucothea since it offers a minimalistic look. I chose to order double-cell cellular shades for their insulating and noise-reduction properties. I opted for white cellular shades because they’ll work no matter what color paint is on the walls.

Next, I entered my windows’ measurements and selected an inside mount to fit within the room’s window frame, a look I like.

Then I selected the motor type for my cellular shades. I chose battery-powered ones that use rechargeable lithium batteries. Both shades came with its own USB charging cord for recharging the batteries. SmartWings also offers DC 12V and Power over Ethernet (PoE) power sources, as well as the ability to add a solar panel to reduce the need to recharge the batteries.

Another step is to select your shade’s motor placement. I put mine on the inside ends for easier access.

There are several motor options to choose from—I went with the standard motor, which is included at no additional cost. So far, my shades’ motors have worked perfectly for me!

I had the choice of either black or white hardware for my shades, and I went with white to match the windows’ trim. I also picked a white remote control for each window instead of black. Another available choice is helix dials, but I prefer the remotes.

My custom cellular shades arrived just one week after I placed my order! After they arrived, my husband used the included hardware to quickly hang the new shades, and we were enjoying them in no time!

Smart-Home Compatibility

SmartWings shades are compatible with our Alexa home system, giving us more options for operating our new shades. They can also be integrated with other smart-home platforms as well, including Apple HomeKit, Samsung SmartThings and Google Assistant.
