Today I’m co-hosting the 2018 Ornament Exchange and link party with 49 other bloggers. For the exchange, each of us was paired with another blogger, for whom we would craft a DIY Christmas ornament. I was paired with Trisha of Rosewood and Grace. Trisha is looking to decorate her home in a rustic theme this year with pine cones and wood slices, so I crafted a wood slice ornament for her. I am hoping that the ornament fits into her theme!
Rustic Wood Slice Ornament
For the DIY ornament I made, I started out with a large unfinished wood slice. Wood slices make great rustic ornaments. Wood slices are so pretty in themselves that not much needs to be done to make them look great!
In all, my supplies for this DIY ornament craft were really quite simple.
Wood Slice Ornament Supplies
Gold acrylic paint
Gold and white cotton baker’s twine
Buffalo plaid ribbon or strip of buffalo plaid fabric
Glue gun and hot glue
How to Make a Wood Slice Ornament
Making this wood slice ornament is really quite easy. To start out, I painted a paper star cut-out/gift tag in gold acrylic paint with a small foam brush. I chose some glittery stickers to spell out “Joy” and affixed them to the star once the paint dried.
I then tied a simple bow with the gold and white cotton baker’s twine and glued it to the top of the star, and glued the star to the wood slice. I used a simple wood awl to create a hole in the top of the wood slice and screwed in 1 Gold eye screw. I cut a ribbon out of my buffalo plaid fabric, looped it through the eye screw and tied a knot at the top. My ornament was complete!
I’m hoping Trisha likes her new Christmas ornament!
