Psychology of Paint Colors for the Home

written by Lauren

A friend of mine has a red dining room, while I have a yellow kitchen and a green bedroom. Red is a popular color for dining rooms, while yellow is a common kitchen color. I am not sure how popular green is as a bedroom color, but I am sure I’m not the first person to choose the soothing hue for bedroom walls!

Do you ever wonder why certain colors get chosen for certain rooms of a home? The Painters of Louisville have the answer! They have a fun infographic that explains the “psychology of color” and why certain colors are good choices for specific rooms.
For example, red is a good choice for a dining room because it encourages appetite, while yellow in a kitchen can help stimulate metabolism (to help you digest your food). Meanwhile, my favorite bedroom color — green — promotes health and tranquility, two great things when anyone is trying to get their Zzzzs!

My home office is currently white, but I will be giving that room up soon (it will become one of my daughter’s rooms) and moving into one that’s already painted blue and green. Which is lucky — blue is said to be the “most productive” color, so I should get a lot of work done in that room! (Even if there are Pooh Bears on the wall!)
