Long Birthday and Graduation Celebration Weekend in the Poconos

written by Lauren Leave a Comment

a beautiful pine forest in the Poconos

Recently, my family and I returned from a long weekend stay in the Poconos. We had a great time! We brought our Shih Tzu pup with us and were there to celebrate my twins' birthday and their recent graduations from college—one just graduated from Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania (my alma mater) and the other got her degree from Smith College in Massachusetts. It was awesome to enjoy some quality family time together! I can't believe that my kids are now college graduates! Cute and Cozy Cottage in Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania I rented a sweet and comfortable home in Tobyhanna, PA, which is Continue reading...

Sun, Swim and Shade: Your Color-Treated Hair Summer Survival Guide

written by Lauren Leave a Comment

hair-care products for summer hair

Summer arrives with barbecue invitations, longer days, and lazy afternoons lounging poolside or on the beach. But for anyone sporting salon-crafted color, it also can result in fading hair pigment, dry ends, and undertones you never want to see. And even if you achieve salon-looking hair color at home, a blissful day at the beach can damage your hair, drying it out and diminishing its shine. The good news is that you don't need to hide inside all season or a build a massive floppy hat collection to maintain your hair's beautiful hue. You do, however, need a plan that incorporates science, Continue reading...

Prepping Your Family for Safe Summer Travel: Entertainment, Meal Planning, and More

written by Lauren Leave a Comment

There’s something magical about a summer road trip—the open highway, a cooler full of snacks, playlists the whole crew can vibe to (mostly), and those fun roadside pit stops. But when you’re a mom, there’s another layer to planning: food prepping for your family on the go. Whether you’re heading out for a weekend getaway or a cross-country trek, having your meals and snacks ready means fewer drive-thru stops and more control over what you and your kids eat. It also means less stress and fewer hangry meltdowns in the backseat. So before you pack the car, here’s how to prep your kitchen and Continue reading...

Artful Day Trip to South Jersey

written by Lauren

A visit to art Installation Rusty the troll in Burlington County, NJ

This week, my family and I visited a very cool art installation in Hainespoint, NJ, called “Rusty,” which was built by artist Thomas Dambo.  It’s a sculpture made of trash that towers at least two stories high. The Danish recycling artist who built it creates large-scale artworks around the world to call attention to how our world is drowning in trash while our natural resources are diminishing. Aptly, a sign in front of Rusty reads, "Don't feed big Rusty!" The sculpture was fun to look at from various angles and to take selfies with!  Behind it is an abandoned Continue reading...

What’s the Best Age to Take Your Kids to a Disney Park—and Which Park Should You Opt For?

written by Lauren

Disneyland is a great place to enjoy with your kids

While you may want to give your children a Disney experience all the time, you may not be able to afford it. Plus, here are other things you may want to explore too. So the question on the mind of most parents is the most appropriate age to take the kids to a Disney park.  No age is too young or too old for Disney. But of course, you do not want to visit when your children are too young to remember anything. Also, different age parks will appeal to different age groups; the best question should be what parks to visit for your child's or children's age.  This guide explores some Continue reading...

Farmers Market Salad

written by Lauren

I love this farmers market salad recipe

I live in Central New Jersey, which means that I have lots of wonderful farmers markets near me. I can drive just a few minutes away from my town in almost any direction and reach beautiful farmland. I love it! So recently, when I needed to come up with my family's Sunday night dinner, I decided to visit Lee's Turkey Farm, one of the local farmers markets within a few miles from my house, and pick up ingredients for a delicious salad filled with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. I also got some spring salad greens, avocado and fresh rotisserie chicken from my local supermarket. My Continue reading...
