This month, I am hosting a mini Christmas and holiday get-together for my tweens at our home. I think the party will be a good opportunity for my daughters to enjoy some fun times with their friends.
Hosting a party with a bunch of tween girls can make any mom nervous, so I’m working with my daughters to plan ahead! We are hoping to keep everyone occupied and happy during the three-hour party. We’ve put together a starting list of activities and items to have at their tween holiday party.
How to Host a Fun Tween Holiday Party
- Provide Food: Food is a must at just about any party, and it’s especially true at tween parties! My kids and I plan to put a menu together for their party. The first item on the list is pizza! We’ll probably also provide some chips and other fun snacks, and some holiday cookies!
- Exchange Gifts: The holidays are about giving, so my daughters and I want to have a fun gift exchange for my daughters’ friends at the party. We’re asking that each guest bring a wrapped gift (worth $10 or less). We hope to have a grab bag at the party. If a recipient doesn’t like her gift, she can try to trade gifts with someone else. We had a gift exchange at one of my daughter’s previous holiday parties, and their friends thought it was a lot of fun.
- Get Group Photos: Tweens love taking and being in photos! My daughters can later text the photos from the party to their friends, so everyone will have a memento from the day.
- Have a Planned Activity: It’s always good to have a set activity at a tween party to keep the kids occupied. At a previous year’s party, my kids and I supplied a Santa hat for each guest to decorate. Everyone enjoyed this activity, and everyone wore their hats at the party! Perhaps this year we could make or decorate Christmas ornaments, or decorate Christmas stockings. Or, the kids could decorate the cookies we will be making for the party!
Just Dance: Disney Party 2
This year, one activity my daughters could share with their friends at the party is the new Ubisoft Just Dance: Disney Party 2 game for our Wii. (The game can also be played on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Nintendo’s Wii U systems.) The game is a blast! (For moms, too!) The goal of the game is to closely match as possible the dance movies of the dancers in the video game.
My friend, Carrie, at Curly Crafty Mom, got the Ubisoft Just Dance 2016 game for PlayStation 4. What’s really cool is that for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Wii U, you can download the Just Dance Controller App on your smartphone and use it to play the game!
Just Dance: Disney Party 2 has more than 20 songs from the Disney Channel, with hits from movies like “Descendants” and “Teen Beach 2,” and TV shows like “Girl Meets World” and “Liv and Maddie.” My daughters and I really liked the track, “Rotten to the Core” from the Disney TV movie, “Descendants.” (Actually, I really like that track!) We love how the dancer resembles a character in the movie with her purple hair!
We also enjoyed the track, “Keep It Under Cover,” from the popular Disney show, “K.C.Undercover.” My girls enjoy watching that program.
The above photos are some of the photos I took while we played the game — but if you’d like to see more screen shots from the game, check out The Just Dance: Disney Party 2 website.
By the way, if you have any of your own tips for hosting a tween party, I’d love to hear them! Please share them in the comments — I might need some help!
