Happy Monday, everyone! Today my friend, Carrie of Curly Crafty Mom, and I are sharing our “Currently” posts. In our “Currently” posts, we share a little bit about what’s going on in our lives.
Valentine’s Day is tomorrow! I hope everyone will have a wonderful Valentine’s Day with loved ones, friends and family! Since Valentine’s Day is a work/school day, my family’s Valentine’s Day will probably be low key. But I still will have to figure out something special to do for my husband and twin teen daughters! They truly make me happy every single day.
To get into the Valentine’s Day spirit, I recently decorated my living room’s console table for Valentine’s Day. To the table I’ve added some red lanterns that I received from Oriental Trading and some of the glass hearts that my husband has given me over the years. The beautiful faux potted glass on the console table is from Commercial Silk. I love that the lanterns have battery-operated wax candles in them, so I can light them whenever I please with no worries.
My husband gives me some heart ornaments every Christmas. (Isn’t that sweet?) Many of the ornaments are made out of glass, since I really like decorative glass. I like having the opportunity to display the ornaments another time of year besides Christmas! (I might try to come up with a spot in my home to have a rotating display of the ornaments.)
Kitchen Remodel
I am about to DIY remodel my home’s oak kitchen cabinets! I would love to remodel the WHOLE kitchen – the kitchen has the same laminate counters, oak cabinets and vinyl floors it had when we moved in. I think painting the cabinets will be a great start!
I’ve seen other bloggers’ beautiful kitchen cabinet transformations using General Finishes Milk Paint. One of the best transformations and tutorials I’ve seen is a YouTube tutorial on using General Finishes Milk Paint on Kitchen cabinets by The Gray Boxwood. I’ve already watched the video a few times! (See The Gray Boxwood video at the bottom of this post.)
For my kitchen’s transformation, I will be using General Finishes Milk Paint,(Antique White), since I want to lighten up the kitchen, but I don’t want stark white cabinets.
I hope to start prepping my cabinets for painting this week. Before painting I plan to clean the the front and frame of the cabinets (to rid the exterior of dirt and grime) and to give the cabinet frames and doors a light sanding before applying the primer. I will be quite busy this week!
I am hoping that someday I’ll be able to change the flooring and update the counters, too. (I’d love wood floors — such as the Princeton Rustic Natural Hardwood Floors by Shaw and marble look-alike quartz counters, such as Silestone.)
Check back later this month to see my progress on my kitchen!
