A year or so ago, I purchased long room-darkening curtains for my home’s master bedroom. The room faces east, so as the sun comes up, it gets extremely sunny in that room!

As my husband and I tend to be night owls and frequently stay up late, we don’t appreciate that morning sun too much, as it wakes us up earlier than we would like! (LOL!) Luckily, the room darkening drapes do a really great job at blocking out the sun and keeping our room nice and dark until we are ready to get up.

Dressing Up Curtains with Ribbon

Unfortunately, however,  I chose an earthy brown color for the bedroom drapes that really closely matches the paint color of the walls in our room, so when the curtains and the paint color are put together, the look is really rather BLAH! They could really use some color or curtain trim.

To add some color to the bedroom drapes, I simply bought some yellow-with-white-polka-dots ribbon from my local craft store. Since the drapes are placed very high (there are 10 foot ceilings in my home’s master bedroom) and because I didn’t want to take the drapes down (lazy, I know!), I decided to add  my ribbon embellishment to my drapes with strips of velcro for my DIY project. All I did was cut the ribbon to size, and attach them to the inside vertical ends of my drapes with the velcro. Within just a few minutes, my DIY trimmed curtains were sporting a pretty yellow trim!

What do you think of the change? I am glad I chose the quick and easy way to add the ribbon trim: If I decide to switch out the ribbon later (the ribbon only cost me just over $2) for a different color or style, the hardest part of the DIY job will be getting the ladder out again, as adding the trim is so simple!
