Today is an exciting day – it’s the first day of the One Room Challenge (ORC). It’s also the day I share my plans for a bathroom makeover in my home. This year marks the first time I am joining this challenge. I’ve thought about jumping in a few times, but was hesitant to join because the challenge involves a lot of work in a little bit of time!
In the challenge, 20 design bloggers and hundreds of guest participants (like me) work to transform a room or space in the span of six weeks.
The challenge, which takes place in April and September, was conceived and is hosted by Linda of Calling It Home. The challenge is a fun way to get the motivation to complete a full room makeover. The challenge is also a good source of design inspiration. I’ve been wanting to join this challenge for a while. I am looking forward to working and sharing with all the other bloggers!
Check back in May for the final One Room Challenge makeover reveals. The design bloggers spaces will be revealed on May 8. Meanwhile, the final reveal of my room – and of all the guest bloggers’ room makeovers – will be on May 9!
Tween to Teen Bathroom Makeover
The space I am planning to make over is my daughters’ bathroom. That space has gone through a few changes over the years. For a while, the room was in limbo – it had some of its original zoo animal theme with some tween bathroom elements mixed in.
What motivated me to re-do the girls’ bathroom is that their toilet stopped working. The toilet was constantly clogging. A new toilet was in order.
I loved the sage green paint on the wall at first, but have grown tired of it. I put up that paint when my girls were tots. I had taken a day off from my full-time job to paint the room. It wasn’t the best paint job – I was working under a really tight deadline. I don’t think the sage green paint looks the prettiest in the space.
I decided to let the girls’ choose the new color for their bathroom — the color they chose is Yarmouth Blue from Benjamin Moore. Next week’s reveal will show the room’s new paint color!
Yarsmouth Blue is part of Benjamin Moore’s Historic Color collection. It has just enough green in it to make me happy!
Bathroom Makeover Ideas
The below shows some of my ideas for space.
My main goals for this space are:
- Give the space a new coat of paint.
- Paint vanity and make a DIY frame for the mirror. (My inspiration for my vanity is the gray painted vanity by Kristin of My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia.)
- Add new decor – art, valance and shower rod and shower curtain – to the space.
- Add extra organization to the room -e.g., a stand-alone linen closet, under the sink organization and maybe over-the-door organization. (My inspiration for how I’d like to organize the space under the sink in the bathroom is from Tiny Home Tour.
I got a head start on the space when I gave the bathroom a fresh coat of white ceiling paint in November. (Check out my post for tips on the easiest way to paint a ceiling – my method doesn’t require a ladder, even for shorties, like me!)
Check back here on Mom Home Guide on Wednesday to see what’s next for this bathroom as I start to make over this space!
