I while back, I posted about my plans to put in a shade garden on the north side of my home.
Well, this past weekend, I got started earlier on the garden than I thought I would. Saturday morning I drove past a garden nursery that was having a 30% off sale for all of its plants. I had to take advantage of it! So, I wound up purchasing three boxwood plants for about $11 each.
So, later that day, while the kids were playing outside, I decided to try to get started on the bed. I started digging up the sod, and the grass came up easier than I thought! I guess I have all the rain we’ve been getting here in New Jersey to thank. This is what my new garden bed looked like after only about 2 hours of digging:
Sunday, one of my daughters and I got up early and went to Home Depot together. I bought a few bags of topoil, and two pretty perrenials (lilyturf varegata) to add to the garden. Home Depot’s Garden Club website says the plants do well in rock gardens and in partial shade, so they should be perfect for my garden.
The kids don’t know it yet, but I plan to drag them to the Home Depot tomorrow so I can get some red gravel for the garden. I hope to get everything planted and add the gravel to the rock garden tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes!
