Best Gardening Clothes for Sun & Tick Protection

written by Lauren Leave a Comment

I have some big gardening plans for this summer! After various critters raided and ate most of my harvest in previous years, I mostly stuck to growing flowers like zinnias and sunflowers. However, I've had some success growing small crops of cherry tomatoes and peas on my enclosed backyard patio, which is protected by a dog fence. I hope to do more gardening this summer—I plan to enclose my garden with an inexpensive no-dig gardening fence this time—so it's important to get protective gardening clothes and gear to protect myself from ticks and the sun. I have BIG gardening goals this year! Continue reading...

I am hoping to enclose my garden without having to spend much! Luckily, garden fencing doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated—especially since this Memorial Day weekend, there are lots of Continue reading...

Now that May is here, I'm looking forward to doing some gardening! If you’re like me, you're no doubt eyeing what's available at the local garden stores, anxious to get started on your summer gardens! And the good news is that here in NJ, it's just about time to get planting! Harvesting Garden Produce the Easy Way: Tools That Save Time and Effort

written by Lauren Leave a Comment

harvest, vegetables

There is something deeply satisfying about bringing in food you grew yourself. A bowl of tomatoes on the counter, a handful of green beans for dinner, and cucumbers still cool from the morning air. That part feels simple. Then harvest season really gets going, and suddenly you are bending, reaching, carrying, sorting and wondering why picking vegetables feels like such a workout. Most people think about planting when the season begins, not the steady work that comes later. But once a garden is in full swing, harvesting becomes its own job, and it can take more time and effort than you Continue reading...

written by Lauren

flowers in garden

If you’re a keen gardener, then you probably know a thing or two about the importance of keeping your plants happily watered. There’s no worse sight than dry, cracked soil and a wilted plant that’s clearly gasping for a drink. But did you know that overwatering can be an equally severe problem, with much the same results? While waterlogged soil certainly won’t leave your plants parched, it does see them sitting in excesses of water, which, in the long-run, can kill them just the same. Sometimes, waterlogging happens because of an overly keen approach to feeding your plants. Oftentimes, Continue reading...
