My family and I love entertaining our friends. With Taste the Madness/The Big Tournament coming up, we’re likely to have some friends over to celebrate! But while the guys might love typical basketball decor, I thought it would be nice to put together some decorations that other moms and myself would appreciate. I thought it would be fun to create some DIY basketball-inspired party decor without being too over-the-top sports related!
Since the guys will most likely be watching the game in our family room, it’s likely that the moms and I will hang out in my home’s kitchen. I have a really long farmhouse-style table in my kitchen — the table is so long that it’s can be difficult to find table runners that are long enough to cover it! So I thought it’d be fun to make my own table runner!
I also would like to have some snacks out for our friends, so at my local Acme, I picked up some OREOS.
The OREOS were easy to find in the cookie aisle!
I also got some Coca-Cola Zero™ for us gals!
I found the Coke Zero in the soda aisle at my local Acme.
DIY Fringed Burlap Table Runner
I love the look of burlap, and burlap can be quite cheap, so I purchased 3 yards of burlap to make my table runner. I also got some really cute burlap ribbon (on sale) to use as trim for my burlap table runner. To make the runner, all I needed to do was cut the burlap to size to fit the length of my table. I also cut the burlap ribbon to size and pinned it on. I then fringed the edges of my table runner. (Cottage and Vine has a great tutorial on how to make a beautiful fringed burlap table runner, if you would like to take a look!)
To go with my Taste the Madness theme, I used a fabric paint marker to draw orange polka dots on my table runner. Painting the dots took some time, but it was also therapeutic! (Just make sure to place newspaper underneath your runner while painting on the polka dots, so you won’t mark up your table.)
Then all I had to do was stitch on the burlap ribbon with my sewing machine.
I also made a quick and easy sports-inspired centerpiece by filling a vase with basketball-themed plastic eggs and filling the vase with faux flowers. I love the bright and happy colors!
I finished my quick and fun DIY party decor by putting together an orange pom pom banner. I don’t know why, but I just love making pom poms!

Lauren, how clever to use those basketball eggs in the vase! Love it! The table runner goes great with the theme, too! I love lemon – I bet I would enjoy the lemon Oreos!

I really like your simple and not over the top basketball decor. My table is also oddly shaped, so making my own DIY table runner is a great idea. By the way I love your hutch. #client
