Trying to keep our homes clean and tidy can feel like a full-time job. However, it can be more than just hard to fit in and stay on top of it, so that your home looks the part. You may find that you also need to know the best ways to store everything too. In this blog post, we’re going to explore some of the ways you should look to store some of the most popular items around the home.
Paperwork
One of the biggest things that we often need to store is paperwork. After all, we have so much of it. For the house, our finances, work, and school stuff, it can all pile up. This is why having a good filing system in your office or another suitable space can help. It’s important to have everything stored correctly, so that you can refer to important documents as and when you need them. There are various types of storage methods you could use. For important documents you need to hold onto for a long time, a sturdy filing cabinet (I like the modern look of this one!) might be a good time. Meanwhile, for items you may only need to hold onto for a short period of time, like mail, a cute basket that you can place on your kitchen or coffee table might help.
Jewelry

Jewelry is another possession you should focus on carefully. Any costume jewelry that you have can easily just be kept in your dresser or closet. But if you have anything of value, you should ensure that it’s stored securely, such is in a fireproof and waterproof safe. You will also want to make sure that your jewelry is covered under your insurance too. If not, you may find that it’s best to store anything very valuable in a vault if you don’t wear it regularly.
Artwork
If you have any treasured pieces of art that you wish to store away for safekeeping, don’t just assume that shoving it in the basement or attic will suffice. In fact, you’ll find that artwork is recommended to be stored between 65°F and 75°F to best protect it from damage. Although, for best preservation, experts recommend more like 70°F. Looking for a climate controlled storage unit could be what you need here. That way, you can stay away from the kinds of extreme temperature changes that could cause an issue.
Food

One of the things we tend to do on autopilot is grocery shopping. When we come home, we find places for everything, then forget about it all. But it’s also important to make sure that you’re storing your food safely or ensuring that it is lasting as long as possible. Getting the right storage containers for your pantry items can help here. You also need to research the best ways to keep your meats and fresh produce by type. That way, you’ll get the longest lifespan out of them. For pantry items like cereal, coffee, or chips, keeping your foods is airtight containers will ensure they stay fresh and continue to taste great—I like to stay away from plastics, so I love these glass storage jars.
Seasonal Items
Finally, you also have to think about your seasonal items. There are always those pieces that you don’t need every single day, like your holiday decorations, seasonal sports equipment, and seasonal clothing pieces, like big coats or beachwear. It’s important to make sure that you’re finding good storage options for them all. If you have space in your home, you may find that it’s easy enough to store your out-of-season clothes, or even sporting equipment in somewhere like a garage. But, you can also consider using external storage for this too. For my seasonal items, I have my eye on these beautiful fabric dressers from Amazon. They are sturdy enough to even put a TV on them, if needed, and are attractive enough to keep in a hallway.
