Here in New Jersey we recently went through a spate of stormy weather. One day, when news reports warned we might lose power that night, my husband called to make sure we had woking flashlights. It turns out that we don’t have many, and finding them was a chore! So I immediately responded when Elgin gave me the opportunity to review two of their quality flashlights.I love the Elgin flashlights I received — the Firebolt Flashlight, a small pen-sized flashlight that has a magnetic mount, and the Maverick Flashlight, which is rechargeable.

Made in the USA, my two new flashlights are quite different from each other, but I really like both! The Maverick ($79.95) is larger, but it can still fit in the palm of my hand. I love that this LED flashlight has a lithium-ion rechargeable battery that has a nearly 600-foot beam and should hold its charge for more than 200 hours. It also comes with its own charging cord and magnetic charging station. The flashlight is very bright, simple to use, and has several light levels to suit my needs and preferences.
The flashlight comes with its own zippered flashlight case, which is handy, should I decide to take it with me on the go, or store it in the glove compartment of my car. I plan to keep my flashlight on my desk in my home office, however—I can easily charge it via my computer’s USB port, and the charging station allows the flashlight to stand upright quite well on my desk. (It comes with mounting hardware should I decide to mount it on a wall.)
Meanwhile, the Elgin Firebolt is a slim flashlight that is light enough to carry with me, such as in a pocket or in my purse. It also has a strong magnetic backing—so I mounted mine on my stainless-steel fridge, so it will always be easy to find. It has a 145-foot beam with a 5-hour battery life; it, too, can be easily turned on with a push of a button. All it needs for power are two standard AAA batteries.
I am quite happy with my two new Elgin flashlights—I now know have a reliable flashlight on each floor of my home should we need one. I am quite impressed with the sturdiness and design of these flashlights—there are certainly the best I’ve ever owned.
