My kids had a one-day break off from school this week, so my daughters, husband and I took advantage of the midweek break and took a mini vacation at the new Kalahari Resorts & Conventions Center in Pennsylvania’s Poconos Mountains! Kalahari is only about a two-hour drive from my home, making it the perfect destination for a family road trip! My kids couldn’t wait to try out the resort’s 100,000-square-foot indoor waterpark!
My family arrived at the resort Tuesday evening, and were wowed by Kalahari’s beautifully decorated lobby area! The lobby is filled with gorgeous African artwork and a lovely central fountain. There are also shops and several dining spots: restaurants and buffets, a candy shop and a coffee shop.
We got a bite to eat at the Ivory Coast Restaurant. We shared some calamari and nachos, and the kids and I ordered some delicious watermelon mint lemonades! My family and I enjoyed our steak and chicken wraps, and my husband liked his steak.
My kids loved our room! The space was neat and clean (with a mini fridge and a flat screen TV), with a vibrant giraffe painting on the wall.
Our room had a mini balcony that overlooked Kalahari’s outdoor pool and surrounding countryside. Beautiful!
As soon as we finished dinner, we hit the water park. (The water park was open until 9 p.m.) The kids had a blast in the waterpark!
The next morning, we picked up a quick bite to eat at Kalahari’s Java Manjaro cafe and hit the water park again!
I really loved floating in the lazy river. I found it to be very relaxing! One of my daughters floated with me for a while, but soon, both of my kids were on the water slides! My husband joined them for a while, and then spent some time with me in the hot tub!
We hit Kalahari’s big arcade area just before leaving the resort on our second day. My daughters really liked the arcade games, and spent at least a half hour carefully choosing their prizes at “The Prize Trunk” at the arcade! (One daughter got a Whoopie Cushion as one of her prizes, so we were serenaded with Whoopee Cushion sounds on our way home!)
In all, we all had a wonderful time at the resort. The resort is undergoing an expansion (Phase II) that will add 100,000 square feet to the already large water park. The resort will also increase the size of its outdoor water park.
My family and I will have to return to Kalahari when the renovations are done and enjoy the new offerings!
