Traveling in London can seem like a chore. But if you’re the sort of person who’s braved places like New Delhi or Cairo or the streets of New York City during rush hour, it’s actually way more convenient than you might think.
If you are thinking of traveling to this wonderful city, take a look at these reasons why London travel can be so much easier than you might think—you may even want to book your next excursion there!
Real-Time Apps Connect Everything Together
When I was a student in London (many years ago), I had to carry maps with me and consult timetables to get around. It’s so much easier these days; you don’t have to consult timetables. Real-time apps tie everything together in London, allowing you to essentially hop on and off any transportation you want with ease.
For example, Citymapper shows you buses, trains, underground trains, and trams, including where they are now and when they will arrive at their next stop. It connects the dots for you so you don’t have to rely on difficult-to-read information at stations and bus stops on hot summer days. The app covers multiple cities, including New York, Chicago and D.C.!
If you want to store your luggage at a major hub while you explore the city, you can do that, too, according to Radical Storage. These facilities are dotted all over the place, meaning you can pop into London, take a look around, and then continue your adventures elsewhere.
Trains Link The Edges
If you want to get out of the center of London, such as for a seaside escape to Brighton, that’s pretty easy, too. Trains connect right to the edge of the city and the towns and cities beyond, allowing you to get out of the capital with incredible ease.
For example, let’s say you have a meeting in London in the morning and then one in Ipswich in the afternoon. All you have to do is get the national rail services at Liverpool Street station, which will take you on the line in the Norwich direction. Essentially, the entire southeast of the country is connected in this way.
Cycle Lanes Are Everywhere

You can also use the city’s many cycle lanes, which are popping up everywhere. These allow you to safely use a bicycle if you want to go from A to B. Many of these routes are scenic and allow you to avoid getting stuck in traffic, meaning that you’re less likely to miss events.
Cycling is also a great way to see the city. If you just rely on the Underground, you won’t see anything.
The Tube Is Cheap
Another perk is how cheap it is to get around on the Tube. The city’s subway system isn’t free, of course, but getting from one point to another is less expensive than you might imagine.
Oyster Cards Make Life Easier

Finally, Oyster cards make life much easier. These allow you to travel on multiple public transport services without having to use different payment methods. You simply top or fill them up like a prepaid card and then use them to tap on and off various transport systems.
For example, let’s say that you arrive at a park and ride. You can tap the machine to pay, then tap onto the Tube before alighting and getting on a bus for the final leg of your trip, tapping to ensure you pay for the trip.
Whether you are traveling to London for business or pleasure, it is such a wonderful city to visit! I’m hoping my travels will bring be back to this lovely city soon!
