felt valentine hearts

I can’t believe that Valentine’s Day is only two days away! I wanted some simple but sweet Valentine’s Day decorations for my home, so for this Valentine’s Day, I crafted some really easy felt hearts for my home’s living room. All I needed for the project were some large felt squares, an embroidery needle, embroidery thread, a few heart buttons and some pinking shears! I also made a special felt heart for each of my daughters. These hearts are great Valentine’s Day gifts!

Craft Instructions

I got the idea for these sweet and cute Valentine felt hearts from Cottage at the Crossroads. Their tutorial for their really easy Valentine felt hearts is just genius! These hearts are so quick and easy to make that you can craft a few of these while you watch your favorite TV show! (I crafted mine while watching House Hunters on HGTV!)

First, take a piece of felt and double your fabric by folding it in half. Hand draw or trace a heart (the size you like) onto your heart. To make my hearts, I first traced a heart onto paper, cut it out with a scissor and traced it with a pen onto my felt.

Cut out your heart with your fabric scissors, making sure you cut through both sides of the fabric. If you wish to add an iron-on applique to your heart, now is the time to iron it onto the front of your heart. If you would like to add a heart button, hand stitch it onto the front of your heart now.

Using a simple running stitch and an embroidery needle, hand-stitch around the outline of your heart with your embroidery thread. Be sure to leave a small opening (don’t stitch all the way around) so there will be room to stuff your heart. (A 1- to 2-inch opening will work just fine.)

Stuff your pillow with Fiberfill. Stitch the opening of the pillow up by hand with a few stitches with a simple needle and thread.

Ta-da! You are done!

My kids liked the felt hearts so much, that I made each of them one! (In their favorite colors and with appliques of their favorite animals!)
