Welcome to the Taste Creations blog hop! Once a month my blogging friends and I get together to share recipes along a shared theme. Today’s theme is summer cocktails! I decided to make a cocktail that’s easy to put together with ingredients you might already have at home. So I went with V8® Bloody Mary’s. This recipe is by the glass, so if you just want one glassful or are sharing a drink with just your significant other, you are set!
Be sure to check out all the summer cocktail recipes we are sharing today at the bottom of this post!
If you like tomato juice or V8® vegetable juice, you are likely to enjoy this Bloody Mary cocktail recipe. It’s basically a spiked, spicier version of tomato juice or V8®.
Bloody Marys are a popular brunch cocktail and go well with breakfast – I had mine with a favorite of mine, cheesy scrambled eggs. Another fun thing about Bloody Mary’s is that you can add a lot of delicious toppings to them. I used what I had on hand – a celery stick, a carrot stick, and a cooked shrimp. Just be sure to choose the right shrimp size for the drink. I also topped the rim of my Bloody Mary with a delicious spice mixture that I’m sharing below.
Simple & Delicious V8® Bloody Mary Recipe (Single Serving)
Bloody Marys are traditionally made with tomato juice. My family and I love V8®, so that’s what we have in the house. (V8® includes the juices of tomatoes, carrots, celery, beets, watercress, spinach, sweet potatoes and other vegetables.) I’ve discovered that Bloody Marys taste even better with V8® instead of tomato juice. This recipe is super easy, and you mix it by the glass. You can even make it in the glass you are serving it in, if you like. Or, you could use a cocktail shaker — I just can’t seem to find mine!
Ingredients
Bloody Mary Rim Salt Mixture:
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 lime wedge or lemon wedge
- 1 cookied shrimp
Other optional garnishes for your Bloody Mary are: a square of cheddar cheese and/or salami, a green or black olive, a cooked crab claw or a small pickle.
Bloody Mary Ingredients
- 1.5 ounces vodka or 1 shot glass full of vodka
- 5.5 ounces V8® vegetable juice (1 small can)
- 2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
- 2-3 dashes hot sauce
- 1 teaspoon fresh lime or lemon juice (I used lime juice, since I had a lime on hand.)
Bloody Mary Directions
Mix the salt, pepper and spices in a shallow dish with a spoon for your Bloody Mary rim salt mixture. Rub a lemon or lime wedge around the rim of your glass. Dip you glass in the spice mixture to coat the rim of the glass with the Bloody Mary rim salt mixture.
The next step is to mix the V8®, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, lemon or lime juice and vodka.
If you decide to mix your cocktail in your glass, you’ll want to use V8® that has already been chilled. Otherwise, you can pour your ingredients over ice in a Cocktail Shaker and shake them to mix.
To mix in your glass: Pour the V8®, vodka, worcestershire sauce and a few dashes of hot sauce of your choice (I used Frank’s® Redhot® Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce) into the glass. Squeeze a teaspoon of fresh lime juice in the mixture. Mix with a spoon or stirrer. For my Bloody Mary, I served my Bloody Mary in a cute Ball Drinking Mason Jar.
