Happy Monday! Today my blogging friends and I are sharing Easter brunch recipes. I am sharing my French toast recipe—the toast is soaked in a thick custard that’s flavored with sugar, vanilla and cinnamon. My family and I love it! Vanilla French Toast Recipe
I make my French toast a little different than most people, I think—I make mine extra eggy, and my family and I love it that way! To us, other French toast recipes seem dry. I also add some vanilla and sugar, to make it sweet and extra yummy.
Ingredients
6 slices Italian sandwich bread
6 whole eggs
1/3 cup milk
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon olive oil
Tools
Measuring cup
Measuring spoons (I used these Magnetic Measuring Spoons—they are quite handy!)
Whisk
Frying pan (I use a lodge cast iron pan.)
Directions
Mix the egg, milk, cinnamon, sugar, and vanilla in a large bowl. Have six slices of bread ready off to the side for dipping.
Coat frying pan with 1 tablespoon olive oil. After the oil is hot (you can tell by splashing a small amount oil in the pan; it will make a sizzling sound). Soak the bread in the egg mixture, making sure they are well coated and there aren’t any dry spots. Cook each custard-coated piece of bread in the pan on both sides until they are lightly browned, and then remove them from the pan. (You may have to cook your French bread in batches, depending on the size of your pan.)
Top the French toast as you like—you can use fruit, or put a small pat of butter and maple syrup on it, as I did.
