A delicious cheddar, mushroom and three pepper frittata

This post contains Amazon affiliate links. Welcome to Tasty Tuesday! I have been trying to incorporate more vegetables into my family's diet. I also like quick and easy one-pan recipes. So last week, I cooked a simple weeknight veggie frittata in my trusty Lodge Seasoned Cast Iron Skillet. I made my easy weeknight veggie frittata with yellow, orange and green mini peppers, spinach and mushrooms, but you could substitute in any type of vegetable you prefer. (E.g., you can add cooked onion, roasted peppers or roasted tomatoes, for instance.) This dinner was so good!! This frittata doesn't Continue reading...

Welcome to this month's "Currently" post. In my monthly Currently posts, I share a little bit about what's going on in my life. If you follow my blog, you may have read that I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer in June. I was really surprised by the diagnosis -- I never expected to face something like this at my age. I was very glad that I had gotten my yearly mammogram in June. In 2015, I had forgotten to get my mammogram. Imagine if I had I forgotten my mammogram this year! I had a lumpectomy in August. I started radiation treatment in October. The photo above shows one of Continue reading...

I came up with a checklist of 5 good-for-us routines my family (and yours) can follow throughout the school year. Taking Some “Me” Time — 12 Months of Goals

October 3, 2017 By Lauren

picking flowers in September

Welcome to the next installment of 12 Months of Goals. Each month, my friend, Carrie of Curly Crafty Mom, and I each take a moment to set a personal goal for ourselves. I find that when I take the time to set a goal each month, I am much better at getting things done. So far this year, most of my goals have centered around accomplishing a certain DIY task -- like painting my kitchen's cabinets or updating my home's master bedroom. But for my October goal, I am going to do something different. I am going to resolve to not take on too many DIY or blog projects. That's because in June, I was Continue reading...

Fabric covered monogrammed pot

Here at Mom Home Guide, I've been working not as hard as I normally do. I usually have a slew of projects that I'm working on. Since my breast cancer diagnosis in late June and my lumpectomy in late August, however, I've been focusing on my health. One thing that made me smile during all this was a care package from my good blogging friend, Carrie of Curly Crafty Mom! (Read more about my breast cancer journey.) The package arrived the same day that I got good news from my surgeon -- she told me that in all likelihood my breast cancer will be cured with treatment with low chance of Continue reading...

My Cancer Journey – Breast Lumpectomy

August 28, 2017 By Lauren

My breast cancer journal -- my lumpectomy

I just had a lumpectomy for the breast cancer that was discovered in my breast in late June. As surgeries go, I suspect it wasn't the worst it could be, but the experience was worse than some of the other surgeries I've had. (Specifically, it was worse than the bunion surgery and wrist surgery I had.) Lots of Pre-Op On the day of my lumpectomy, I arrived at the hospital at 7:30 a.m. There was the usual stuff -- signing forms and showing my insurance and ID cards, etc. Soon I was taken to an upstairs room, asked questions, gave a urine sample (pregnancy test) and changed into a hospital Continue reading...

My Breast Cancer Journey — Mammogram Call Back & Biopsy

My Cancer Journey - a positive mammogram and a lumpectomy

I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I have a family history, but I never expected to be facing something like this so soon - at 50. It all started with my yearly mammogram. A Mammogram Callback  I went for a yearly screening mammogram in June. I opted to pay $50 extra for a 3D mammogram, A 3D mammogram is thought to find more cancers than traditional 2D mammograms do. In past years, all my mammograms have been fine. (I have been getting mamograms since at least 40, I think. It's been a while.) After the mammogram, I picked up lunch to share with my twin teenage Continue reading...

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #BlueLizardSummer #CollectiveBias Once summer hits, my family and I love to enjoy the sunny weather in our backyard. We play bocce and croquet together, read in the backyard or by our patio pond, and enjoy meals on the patio.   Although we love to take in the warm summer sun, I always provide protection for me and my family from the sun's harmful rays.   A lot of people forget to protect themselves from the sun when playing or relaxing close to home. Sure, we bring Continue reading...
