Unfinished Basement Playroom Ideas

written by Lauren

basement remodeling ideas

Last year was a busy year! I started this website, and thankfully, at least a few people have read it! Thanks everyone for your visits! It's been a fun year. For all you new readers out there, I thought I'd post some of the most-read posts from 2012 -- enjoy! And, if you are wondering, I have created an unfinished basement playroom space for my kids, but it's nowhere near as nice as I'd like it to be. I haven't painted the walls or stained the floors in the unfinished basement playroom space, and there is still a lot of organizing to be done! I will have to keep working on creating a fun Continue reading...

Decor for a New Kid Study Area

written by Lauren

thappi by dena, tv area, wall mural, kids

Last week, I finished the feature wall in my kids' new study area. I think it looks great! For the new feature wall, my kids picked out a pretty green paint, plus a really cute owl and tree RoomMates mural (Happi by Dena), that I purchased on Amazon (my go-to shopping place). The mural was pretty easy to put up -- the only help I needed was reading the itsy bitsy numbering on the mural's instructions that told me where to put each of the mural's parts. The numbers were so small, I couldn't read them even with the help of a magnifying  glass! I finally had to call one of my daughters in Continue reading...

Organizing Kid Spaces in the Home

written by Lauren

When my kids were babies, we kept most of their toys in a small bookshelf that we kept in the living room. Their baby toys didn't take up much space. But, as they got older, they got more and more toys, and before I knew it, their toys were all over the house. Over the years, I've done various things to find a space for them to play in, and a place for their toys. At first, my husband and I kept two large toy boxes in the living room to hold all their toys. But now that they are older, I am hoping to replace those toy boxes with a sofa, and move the toy boxes into a basement playroom Continue reading...

Cheap Basement Remodeling Ideas

written by Lauren

cheap basement remodeling ideas

Since moving into our home over 8 years ago, the only thing we’ve done to our basement is pile lots of junk in it. The basement is spacious and has fairly high ceilings for a basement, but it is so filled with stuff, that we can use the space for little else but storage. So, I am always looking for cheap basement remodeling ideas. I do have a playroom area set aside in the basement for my kids to play in, but even that is messy. When my children’s friends come over to play, I don’t let them play in the basement playroom, since I fear it could be a safety issue with all those stacked boxes Continue reading...

More Projects With Duck Tape®

written by Lauren

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Duck Brand® for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine. The custom Duck Tape® placement that I created.   I have been loving Duck Tape® lately. The tape is inexpensive, durable, comes in great designs and is an easy way to add some flair and durability to household items. Recently, I used a star pattern and a pretty spring green Duck Tape® to dress up some cardboard storage boxes that I use to store my children’s toys in our basement playroom. The colorful Duck Tape® adds some interest and fun to our unfinished gray Continue reading...

Cleaning Out the Toy Chests

written by Lauren

toy box, clutter, organize

Ever since my kids were tots, we’ve kept their wooden toy boxes in our living room. The living room, which is only furnished with an upright piano, was the perfect place for them to play in. The plush carpeting was nice for them to play on and cushioned their falls, and the room’s location just off the kitchen made it easy for me to keep an eye on them while I was cooking. But now that my kids are both 9, I am hoping to move the toy chests downstairs into a basement playroom. I would love to turn the living room into more of an adult living space, and furnish it with a small loveseat and a Continue reading...

Readers’ Favorite MomHomeGuide Posts

written by Lauren

MomHomeGuide.com has been up and running for a few months now, so I thought I'd share with you some of readers' favorite posts! As a mom, I've been obsessed with how to turn my home's unfinished basement into a useable space for my kids to play in, and it seems that a lot of moms and parents have the same concern, because the posts I've written about how to fix up a basement on the cheap are the website's most popular stories! Mudrooms are also a favorite topic with moms -- we need an organized space to stash our family's shoes and coats without cramping our home's style! I'm still working Continue reading...

Organization Spree: The Kitchen

written by Lauren

pantry, organize, cloth bins, storage

I've been on an organizing kick lately. This year, I've blogged frequently about how I'd like to create a fun, but clean basement playroom for my kids. (Check out my posts on my plans for fixing up our unfinished basement on the cheap). My kids currently have a play space in our unfinished basement, but the toys are stored in open storage, which makes the basement playroom space look messy. Plus, since the basement is unfinished, the only color in the space (besides the toys) is the drab gray of the basement floors and walls. I like what the folks at mom blog, My Blessed Home, did for Continue reading...

Finishing Unfinished Business

written by Lauren

unfinished basement stairs

Walk through my home, and you’ll find a bit of unfinished work. In the garage, there are the unfinished stairs the builder put in that could still use a coat or two of stain. Outside, there is the ramp that we had built for our backyard shed that now, two years later, could use some stain. The wooden perimeter (at the bottom of the shed) could also use some stain.   Then, there’s the unfinished pine stairs that lead to our unfinished basement. The stairs have never been stained and are now a bit dirty. Because I hope to improve my home's unfinished basement this summer, I Continue reading...

Creating Living Space in the Basement

written by Lauren

Basements have to be the WORST place to declutter. At least mine is. I've been wanting to create a playspace for my kids in our home's basement for years now, but haven't gotten around to it. That's because our basement, which once once fairly neat with only a few boxes piled in it, is now a mess. When my twins were tots, I didn't have the time needed to keep the space clean, so whenever we had stuff that we needed to store, we just threw it down in the basement. To top if off, we accumulated belongings from family and friends that is now stored in the space. I have set up a play area Continue reading...
