I am happy that spring has finally arrived here in New Jersey! I am loving all the daffodils that are blooming in my front yard. I adore the warmer temperatures. I was feeling crafty recently, so I did a quick and easy craft for my backyard – wind chimes!
I used an old terra cotta pot that I spray painted, cut out some vinyl designs with my Silhouette machine, and strung some beads and mini bells together. I got the beads and cute mini bells from Amazon. Terra Cotta pot wind chimes are a fun and easy craft.
Terra Cotta Pot Wind Chimes
For my new terra cotta pot wind chimes, I used the acrylic beads and mini bells that I had previously used for a DIY twig wind chimes.
We recently had a really windy day. I tried to take the twig wind chimes down from the string light planter post it was hanging from, and accidentally snapped the twig! (I should have used a step stool instead of tugging at the wind chimes from below.)
I saw some really cute terra cot pot wind chimes on Pinterest, so I decided to make some for myself. I was sad that I broke my original wind chimes, but I am happy with how this project turned out! You can see my first wind chimes project below. I think I like my new wind chimes better!

Mini Bells (mine were originally copper colored, but they aged from being outside, so I spray painted them gray to match my spray painted pot.)

How to Make Terra Cotta Pot Wind Chimes
I started my project by giving my terra cotta pot a coating of spray paint. I just stuck the pot on some newspaper, spray painted it, and let it dry.
I also used the same spray paint to give a new finish to the bells (which I re-used from previous wind chimes I made). The bells aged a bit while outside, and I wanted to give them a new look.
I strung my acrylic beads on lengths of twine. (When I took apart my old wind chimes, some of the strings of beads came undone.)
I made the lengths of beads the same length. I also tied a bell onto the end of each length of beads.
I used a mini bungee cord that I had on hand already to create a hanger for the wind chimes.
I cut off one of the plastic ends of the bungee cord. I knotted the cord on one end to create a loop, and slipped the loop through the hole in the bottom of the pot. I probably could have kept both of the bungee cord hooks on the cord, but it was easier to tie without the second one.
I knotted the lengths of beads together. I tied my knotted lengths of beads to the inside of the rope hanger that I made for the wind chimes.
I used my Silhouette Cameo cutting machine to cut out some vinyl designs for my spray painted terra cotta pot.
I made some butterfly decals, plus a “hi there” and a “hello” decal. I chose pink for the decals because the pink looks good against the gray pot. (Also, I only have few colors left in my vinyl stash because of some my recent Silhouette projects.)
I used some transfer tape to apply the decals to the spray painted terra cotta pot. (I used the tape to lift up my designs from the vinyl’s backing paper.)
I pressed the tape and design on the pot, rubbed the design with my Vinyl Scraper to make the vinyl adhere better and then carefully lifted off the tape, leaving my vinyl designs on the pot.
I painted a layer of Mod Podge over the vinyl designs on the pot (for extra protection) and let it dry.
I like how my DIY wind chimes craft turned out!
I placed vinyl decals on most of the surface of the terra cotta pot, so there is something to see from every angle.
