Letter Board Valentine’s Day Table

January 17, 2018 By Lauren

Oriental Trading sponsored this post. I received free product in exchange for my honest review.

I love decorating my home’s console table for the seasons. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I decided it was time to decorate the table for Valentine’s Day! I found all the items for my Valentine’s Day table on Oriental Trading’s website, which has a great selection of party and decor items for Valentine’s Day.

The item on my Valentine’s Day console table I am most excited about is my 20″ Black Letter Board Kit from Oriental Trading. Letter boards have been very popular lately, and I have been wanting to add one to my home’s decor. As a writer, I love having something like this letter board to express myself. The board includes 188 letters and other characters.

The flower box on my console table is Oriental Trading’s DIY Flower Box Centerpiece. This flower box was almost a DIY fail for me. I stained this unfinished box, but the walnut stain I purchased turned out to be way darker than I expected it to be.

After applying the stain, the stain looked more like a thick paint than a wood stain. (I should have stuck with my usual brand.) To remedy my DIY fail, I painted the box with a wash I made by adding water to white acrylic craft paint. I like the resulting finish much better.

I filled the box with cute embossed pint bell jars. I topped the mason jars with small moss balls. You might have noticed from my photos that I filled the planter box with some cotton balls — the planter is actually a tiny bit taller than my mason jars are. I made a layer of cotton balls on the bottom of the planter so the mason jars could be more visible.

I got the red metal lanterns from Oriental Trading last year. (They are similar to these white lanterns.) I added the Gold Glitter Paper Pennant Banner for some extra glitz. (Who can’t use a little glitz and sparkle?)

Finally I decorated the planter box with two adorable cupid-style clothes pins that my blogging friend, Carrie of Curly Crafty Mom, gave me last year. Aren’t they cute? (Thanks, Carrie!)

In all, I love how my console table looks with my Valentine’s Day Decor from Oriental Trading. I have a feeling that I will be placing the planter box and the letter board on my living room console table a lot this year! (Check out this post for more about my living room console table, which I painted and stained myself.)

In case you missed it, I also recently crafted a Scrappy Valentine’s Day Wreath. Check out my tutorial to make your own Valentine’s Day wreath.

You are just going to love your letter board! I want to get another, smaller one. This turned out so cute, I love the white wash on that planter box. It’ll be fun to decorate each season! I’m glad you were able to use those V-Day clothespins I sent you! 🙂
