Hey, everyone! Happy February! Today is the first Monday of the month, so that means my blogging friends and I are getting together to share some of our favorite foods for our Taste Creations blog hop—we’re all sharing a breakfast treat! The recipe I’m blogging about today is for delicious cinnamon roll donuts. All you need is an inexpensive donut pan to bake them in the oven. Then, top them with an easy cinnamon roll glaze, and you have a delicious treat for your Valentine! Be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post to see my friends’ delicious recipes, too!
On special occasions, I traditionally make and serve warm, sweet, and gooey cinnamon rolls to my family. Now that I have discovered this cinnamon roll recipe, I can make an even better version of our favorite treat in donut form! Key to this recipe is a donut pan, which you can get inexpensively on Amazon.
Cinnamon Roll Donuts
Ingredients
For the donuts
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Cooking spray
For the Cinnamon Roll Glaze/Icing
- 1 cup powdered sugar a.k.a. confectioner’s sugar
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoon butter melted
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 4 tablespoons milk (can substitute with heavy cream or half and half)
Baking Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a donut pan with cooking spray.
- Place the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder and salt in a large mixing bowl. Stir to combine.
- Add the eggs, butter, milk and vanilla extract to the bowl. Stir until smooth.
- Place the batter in a piping bag or freezer bag. Snip off the tip of the bag with scissors.
- Pipe the batter into the wells of the two donut baking pans.
- Bake the donuts for 10 minutes. Let the donuts rest for 3 minutes, then remove them from the pan and place on a cooling rack.
- Let all of the donuts cool completely.
Topping/Glaze Instructions
- Melt butter.
- In a mixing bowl, combine powdered sugar, brown sugar, butter, vanilla and milk.
- Blend until smooth with a spoon or spatula and pour over warm donuts.
If you like, you can also make a quick white glaze to pour over the cinnamon roll icing — just mix a cup of powdered sugar with 1-2 teaspoons of milk until you have a consistency that you can pour over the donuts. Easy!
These donuts are so tasty—I am planning to make these again for Valentine’s Day this month! My Shih Tzu puppy thinks they are yummy, too!
