One started at Bryn Mawr College (where I went to college), and one began at Smith College. It was an emotional week, filled with highs and lows. Now I have a house empty of my two sweet kids. Luckily, however, I saw one of my children over the weekend, as my husband and I brought a new Newair 3.1 Cu. Ft. Compact Mini Continue reading...

Roasted Beet, Herbed Cheese & Avocado Sandwich

August 1, 2021 By Lauren

roasted beets, avocado, hardboiled egg, pickled onion, lettuce and basil on sourdough bread

My family and I traveled to Annapolis, Md., last month. While we were there, we discovered Eastport Kitchen, which was near our AirBNB rental in Eastport. My teens and I ordered the Daisy Sandwich, which has roasted beets, hardboiled egg, arugula, pickled onion, avocado, and an herbed cheese spread on toasted multigrain bread. We like the sandwich so much that we ordered it twice! Once we got home I decided to make my own version of it. I think I've come pretty close. We love this delicious sandwich! The sandwich contains no meat and has fresh vegetables, so it fits with the semi vegetarian Continue reading...

Something about the open flame scared me. But now that I've had my Weber Spirit E310 Liquid Propane Gas Grill for a few years, I love it! In the summer, grilling is a great way to spend more time outdoors with the added plus of keeping the kitchen clean. I recently got a Tranmix Wireless Remote Digital Thermometer, which makes grilling easier and even more enjoyable. I recently cleaned and readied my grill for summer Continue reading...

How to Become an Urban Homesteader

July 26, 2021 By Lauren

potted herbs in terra cotta pots on a balcony

Thanks to Park Seed for this guest post. Over time, technology and modern conveniences have become essential in our lives. We can place orders with 2-day shipping, take virtual tours and even have watches that can measure our blood oxygen levels. (How cool!) While it’s awesome to have these conveniences at our fingertips, it feels good to be self-sufficient and do something on our own. It's rewarding to work with our own hands, without the help of computers or video tutorials.  Many looking for a more self-sufficient lifestyle are embracing the idea of homesteading. People Continue reading...

Thanks to the makers of the Giani Marble Countertop Kit for partnering with me on this post. All opinions expressed in this post are my own. This post contains affiliate links.
