May 24, 2014 By Lauren

Editor's Note: I am working on some new projects for the blog today, so I thought I'd share this post from Mom Home Guide's archives. Many of these projects are on my to-do list for this year: I really need to paint the Adirondack chairs and I have to plant my flower tower for this summer! I am a HUGE fan of Sarah, who runs the Thrifty Decor Chick mom / home decor blog. I want to ready my outdoor spaces for summer entertaining, so I decided to check out her blog, Thrifty Decor Chick. Sarah has an incredible eye for design and is a fantastic DIYer! Plus, her home is beautiful! Continue reading...

Mason Jar Succulents

May 20, 2014 By Lauren

succulent, mason, jar, gifts

A few weekends ago, my family and I were invited to a wonderful backyard barbecue with good friends. Three of my great "mom" friends were there, so I decided to make them all personalized gifts. I made a potted succulent plant for each friend -- I planted the succulents in pretty green mason jars. I think this gift is wonderful for anyone who adores plants. Potted succulents also make for lovely teacher appreciation or end of the year gifts! This gift might even please some dads for Father's Day! I found some great succulents at my local Wal-Mart store. Succulents are hardy plants that have Continue reading...

DIY, bird bath, how to, clay, pot

Hi, everyone! The below post is an oldie but goodie here at Mom Home Guide. My spring garden is looking beautiful right now with all the daffodils and tulips that my daughters helped me plant last fall. (Thanks, girls!) I hope to get into the garden and plant some more flowers soon. I also have to make sure that I keep our bird feeder filled and bird bath replenished with water so the birds will keep coming to our garden! Enjoy my how to make a DIY bird bath tutorial! It's been a few weeks since I planted my flower garden. Now that my garden is complete, I have been Continue reading...

Easy Cloth Napkin Pillows

April 19, 2014 By Lauren

easy, craft, sew, diy, napkin, pillows

Hello! I am back talking about easy DIY pillows again. (I last posted about my cloth placemat pillows.) As you probably know, I am in LOVE with my new Mohawk Home area rug, and my La-Z-Boy sofa, which I adore dressing up and making look pretty. So, when I  found 4-packs of cloth napkins on sale at Target for less than $3 a pack, I had to snag them! I just love the pretty prints. I knew I could transform the cloth napkins into DIY cloth napkin pillows for my new La-Z-Boy sofa! I bought three packs of the cloth napkins. Since four napkins are in each pack, I could make Continue reading...

Easy and Quick Way to Clean Stove Grates

March 16, 2014 By Lauren

clean, stove, grates, ammonia

One thing I hate to do the most in my kitchen is clean stove grates. I forget about cleaning the stove  grates for so long, so by the time I get around to cleaning them, I wind up with baked-on grease that's really tough to scrub off! Yuck! So instead of scrubbing all day long, I use my easy stove cleaning method that I found on -- where else -- Pinterest! Materials Needed 4 Ziploc Gallon Storage Bags A teaspoon or less of ammonia for each Ziploc bag (you only need a small amount per bag) Dish cleaning sponge (I like to use Continue reading...

Countdown Until Spring & Craft Magnets

March 13, 2014 By Lauren

days until spring, 2014, craft

OK -- enough already! I am so sick of winter! The temperatures are down in the 20s today, and I can't take it! But at least I can take comfort in the cute bird and springtime magnets that I made the other day for my refrigerator door. It makes me think that spring can't be too far off! I can see them right now as I write this post from my "home office" -- the kitchen table! I just love springtime crafts! I found the materials for my fridge craft magnets when I was out shopping for fabric at my local craft store. I have been planning a big redesign for my home's living room, and was out Continue reading...

Dollar Store Valentine’s Day Centerpiece

January 19, 2014 By Lauren

dollar store, candle holder, valentine's day, centerpiece

Now that I have taken down all the Christmas decorations, my home was looking a little empty! So I decided to get to work decorating for the next holiday ... Valentine's Day! I spotted some great supplies at my local dollar store that I thought I could use to make a beautiful Valentine's Day centerpiece. So I picked up a class candle holder, a heart-shaped glass dish, a red scented candle and some plastic heart scatters -- all for just over $4! I had some Gorilla Glue on hand, so I decided to use that to glue my glass dish to my glass candle holder. Gorilla Glue is very strong -- I've used Continue reading...

2013 Year in Review

January 2, 2014 By Lauren

mom home guide, 2013, year in review

Happy 2014, everyone! I can't believe that 2013 is over! Last year was a busy one here at Mom Home Guide. So, before launching my new projects for 2014, I am going to share the best of what I accomplished in 2013! Here is my 2013 Mom Home Guide Year in Review. Burlap Crafts Burlap was popular in 2013, so like many crafters, I jumped onto the burlap bandwagon in 2013. It was fun! Two of my favorite burlap crafts I completed was my stenciled no-sew burlap valance for my home's downstairs powder room, and my no-sew fringed burlap table runner. Both projects were problem solvers, as I was having Continue reading...

Scrapbook Paper Gift Tags

December 18, 2013 By Lauren

scallop, scissor, scrapbook, paper, gift tag

I am a big scrapbooker and have been working feverishly to get this year's scrapbook of family photos completed! Since scrapbook paper is so pretty, I always save my paper scraps in case I can use them for something someday. Well, while watching the finale of The Voice with my daughters last night on TV, I figured out how to use all those scraps -- I converted some of them into pretty scrapbook gift tags for all the gifts I have yet to wrap! (LOL) With only three days of school left before the winter holiday, I decided to let my kids bring in their teacher gifts today -- but we needed Continue reading...

Winterize Your Home – #LearnandConserve

December 17, 2013 By Lauren

save, energy, winter, home

Cold weather has hit New Jersey early this year. In my area, we’ve already have had snow (and one school snow day!), and the temps have been dipping way below freezing at night. I think we are going to have a cold winter this year! So, I am excited to be participating in the NRG Residential Solutions Learn & ConserveSM Blogger Challenge. Through the program, I will be learning how to conserve and reduce energy use in my home, and will be competing against local bloggers to see who can conserve the most amount of energy through January. I've always been interested in reducing my home's Continue reading...
