Yesterday, I decided to get going and start painting the special Owl Mural Study Area that I promised for my children. The kids picked out a light spring green color that I starting adding to one wall yesterday. A big owl wall decal will go on that wall once the painting is done. Since I am a messy painter, and because the whole floor area of the room to be painted is covered in wall-to-wall carpeting, I was very careful and made sure I did a lot of prep work before I started painting. How to Paint Walls If you are a messy painter (or just want to get the job done right), Continue reading...
What I Am Reading This Week
Now that I’ve discovered the world of mom blogs and all the great designing and organizing projects that they do, I no longer need to subscribe to monthly magazines to get my home décor and design fix. I can get it daily just by visiting some of my favorite mom blogs. These are some of the mom blog posts that have caught my eye so far this week: Simple Slipcovers from In My Own Style Decorating with Plates from the Lettered Continue reading...
Organizing Kid Spaces in the Home
When my kids were babies, we kept most of their toys in a small bookshelf that we kept in the living room. Their baby toys didn't take up much space. But, as they got older, they got more and more toys, and before I knew it, their toys were all over the house. Over the years, I've done various things to find a space for them to play in, and a place for their toys. At first, my husband and I kept two large toy boxes in the living room to hold all their toys. But now that they are older, I am hoping to replace those toy boxes with a sofa, and move the toy boxes into a basement playroom Continue reading...
Cheap Basement Remodeling Ideas
Since moving into our home over 8 years ago, the only thing we’ve done to our basement is pile lots of junk in it. The basement is spacious and has fairly high ceilings for a basement, but it is so filled with stuff, that we can use the space for little else but storage. So, I am always looking for cheap basement remodeling ideas. I do have a playroom area set aside in the basement for my kids to play in, but even that is messy. When my children’s friends come over to play, I don’t let them play in the basement playroom, since I fear it could be a safety issue with all those Continue reading...
Mrs. Smith’s Signature Deep Dish Pies
This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Mrs. Smith's for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine. My family has been a fan of Mrs. Smith's pies for a long time. My kids love the Classic Apple Pie, while my husband particularly likes Mrs. Smith's Dutch Apple Pies. What I love about the pies is that I can pop them in the oven, and within minutes, I have a deliciously warm pie that I can serve to my family. I recently learned about Mrs. Smith's Signature Deep Dish pies, and I am excited to try them! What I like about these pies are that they are deep dish, meaning each Continue reading...
Find Your Mom Blogs on Google Reader
Editor's Note: Google Reader has sadly been discontinued. I now follow my favorite mom blogs on Bloglovin'. You can sign up to follow Mom Home Guide and other mom blogs at Bloglovin. Since becoming a blogger, I’ve become a fan of several other mom blogs that I enjoy reading pretty much daily. But checking into each website several times a week can be time-consuming. That’s why I am so glad that I discovered Google Reader. By singing into my Google account and going to www.google.com/reader, and choosing which blogs I want to subscribe to (by clicking on the red subscribe button on the Continue reading...
Organizing Resolutions for the New Year
Now that 2013 has rolled around, I am focusing on organizing my home for the new year. So, I have been eyeing some products that will help me to get the job done this year. Fun Laundry Sacks Laundry is a BIG problem in my house! My husband, the kids and I all throw our laundry into one big laundry bin in the master bathroom. The problem is that when everybody’s stuff is combined, it’s hard to keep all the socks together. So when I pull the laundry out of the washing machine, I always have a sock or two that is missing its mate. (Poor, lonely socks – sniff!!) So, I’ve resolved to Continue reading...
Owl Mural Study Area
About a year ago, I created a study area in our large upstairs hallway for my two daughters. We used to have a large office desk in that area, but since getting our laptop, we didn’t use it much. Plus, the desk was so big, that my daughters had to walk a big circle around it at night to get from their shared bedroom to the bathroom. The desk was just way too big! So, I took that big behemoth desk apart and stored it in the basement. I brought up some items from the basement (I swear our basement has just about everything stored in it): a large folding table, an office lamp and two Continue reading...
Baskets for Kitchen Organization
Years ago, when my husband and I moved into our home, there was plenty of storage in our new kitchen. But since then, I've acquired new cooking tools, small appliances and servingware, and now, there is not enough room to store all of our kitchen stuff in our tiny kitchen. Add to that all the plastic cups and plates for outdoor dining, and lunch box supplies for my kids, and we really have a problem! Despite the lack of plentiful cupboard space in my home's kitchen, I've recently found extra storage space in the kitchen. How did I do that? I created extra space on top of my Continue reading...
Living Room Inspiration Board
For years, I have been trying to figure out what to do with my home’s living room. The long, narrow room leads from my home’s front door to both the kitchen and the family room in my open-concept home. Since the room is a main thoroughfare in my home, I haven’t wanted to block the flow of traffic with furniture. Plus, when my kids were tots, the carpeted space, which is just off the kitchen, was a great place for them to play. (That is why today, two toy chests still sit in the living room.) The only other furniture pieces of importance in my home's living room are an upright piano Continue reading...
