Today has been a great day so far. One of my daughters just loves the snow, so I promised her last night that I would get up early (for me, that means 9:30 a.m. on a Sunday) and take her to the big pile of snow that the snow plows left in the middle of our street. She's been sledding and climbing on it all day. Luckily, my husband is watching her outside now, so I can have some hot soup and warm up! Before I took my daughter outside, I started a simple crock-pot dinner that my family just loves! All I did was take 2 pounds of baby back pork ribs and place them in my large slow cooker. I Continue reading...
Snow Day!
Thanks to the recent snow storm, my area got at least 4 to 6 inches of snow last night. The kids are having a great time! We live on a cul-de-sac, so the snow plows just plow all the snow into a big mound in the middle of the street, which all the kids love to sled on! We had a great day on the cul-de-sac this morning, as all the kids and parents got together to enjoy the snow. The dads on the block created a snow run that ran from the top of the snow mound into the middle of the cul-de-sac so that all the kids on the block could enjoy some sledding. I love our Continue reading...
Picture Frame Dry Erase Board
I like to browse Pinterest for craft ideas, and I’ve seen a lot of easy DIY picture frame dry erase boards, so I decided to make one of my own! I recently created a mini mudroom by my home’s front door that’s pretty functional. My home’s mudroom area has a coat rack, a mirror (for quick checks before heading out the door), a clock (to keep us on schedule on school mornings) and a rack with bins for hiding most of our shoes. I have a calendar that I made (on Vistaprint) that contains all our important school dates and holidays, but I really needed a place Continue reading...
What I Am Reading This Week
Reading magazines used to be a hobby, but now, reading all the fantastic mom blogs out there is my new obsession! These are some favorite posts that I came across this week. I just LOVE Mexican food, so I was happy to find this Cheesy Chicken Taquitos recipe from How to Nest for Less: I love this post on organizing a daughter's closet. I've been trying to figure out how to organize one daughter's hair accessories, and One Creative Housewife has some really smart ideas! My kids love fortune cookies, so if I could manage to make these fortune cookies (with free printables) Continue reading...
Decor for a New Kid Study Area
Last week, I finished the feature wall in my kids' new study area. I think it looks great! For the new feature wall, my kids picked out a pretty green paint, plus a really cute owl and tree RoomMates mural (Happi by Dena), that I purchased on Amazon (my go-to shopping place). The mural was pretty easy to put up -- the only help I needed was reading the itsy bitsy numbering on the mural's instructions that told me where to put each of the mural's parts. The numbers were so small, I couldn't read them even with the help of a magnifying glass! I finally had to call one Continue reading...
Super Bowl Party Food
The Super Bowl is this weekend, so I’ve been surfing the web for fun party food. We are not much of a football family in my house, but the kids do enjoy watching the Super Bowl with us, so Super Bowl night is a kid-friendly, family affair in our house. And of course, watching the Super Bowl is a whole lot more fun when there are some good snacks to nosh on, so I have been searching other great mom blogs for some good recipes to whip up. I found a few, so I’d thought I’d share! Can't wait to try these dishes! Cheddar Bay Biscuits from Get Off Your Butt and Continue reading...
Getting Started with Paint
Yesterday, I decided to get going and start painting the special Owl Mural Study Area that I promised for my children. The kids picked out a light spring green color that I starting adding to one wall yesterday. A big owl wall decal will go on that wall once the painting is done. Since I am a messy painter, and because the whole floor area of the room to be painted is covered in wall-to-wall carpeting, I was very careful and made sure I did a lot of prep work before I started painting. How to Paint Walls If you are a messy painter (or just want to get the job done right), Continue reading...
What I Am Reading This Week
Now that I’ve discovered the world of mom blogs and all the great designing and organizing projects that they do, I no longer need to subscribe to monthly magazines to get my home décor and design fix. I can get it daily just by visiting some of my favorite mom blogs. These are some of the mom blog posts that have caught my eye so far this week: Simple Slipcovers from In My Own Style Decorating with Plates from the Lettered Continue reading...
Organizing Kid Spaces in the Home
When my kids were babies, we kept most of their toys in a small bookshelf that we kept in the living room. Their baby toys didn't take up much space. But, as they got older, they got more and more toys, and before I knew it, their toys were all over the house. Over the years, I've done various things to find a space for them to play in, and a place for their toys. At first, my husband and I kept two large toy boxes in the living room to hold all their toys. But now that they are older, I am hoping to replace those toy boxes with a sofa, and move the toy boxes into a basement playroom Continue reading...
Cheap Basement Remodeling Ideas
Since moving into our home over 8 years ago, the only thing we’ve done to our basement is pile lots of junk in it. The basement is spacious and has fairly high ceilings for a basement, but it is so filled with stuff, that we can use the space for little else but storage. So, I am always looking for cheap basement remodeling ideas. I do have a playroom area set aside in the basement for my kids to play in, but even that is messy. When my children’s friends come over to play, I don’t let them play in the basement playroom, since I fear it could be a safety issue with all those Continue reading...
