*This post contains affiliate links. I still haven't gotten around to clearing out my home's basement (or at least, moving all the junk to just one area of the basement), but I am excited about new DIY finishing a basement on a budget ideas that I've found online. At the moment, my basement is mostly used for storage. My husband installed a wall of shelving in our basement for me. The shelves do a great job in containing our stuff! My dream for the basement would be to create a fun game room for my kids, complete with a TV, ping pong table and mini fridge! I have even put my own Continue reading...
Party Food!
I am hoping to host a family party in a few weeks, and as I am not the best of cooks, I’ve been on the search for tasty (but easy) recipes that I can serve. I’ve had a lot of luck with Pinterest, and think that through the online site, I’ve found a few recipes that might work for my next shindig. South of the Border Fare I found a great recipe for a cheesy enchilada casserole. The casserole looks easy enough for even me to pull off and it looks like something I could possibly freeze later if there is some casserole left after the guests have moved on from the entrees to the Continue reading...
Organizing With Shoe Bags
This post contains Amazon affiliate links. I’ve been pinning a fair amount on Pinterest lately, and I’ve been finding a lot of creative uses for hanging shoe bags – and I mean doing much more than organizing shoes! I’ve seen shoe bags used as office and craft supply organizers and by adding some potting soil, even as hanging planters. I’ve been thinking of maybe trying the hanging planter idea – I’d like to find something to add interest to my yard’s chain link fence. Organizing This and That A hanging shoe organizer can also be a great central organizing area Continue reading...

Coming Up Roses
It's been raining buckets lately here in New Jersey, which has been both a good and a bad thing. It's been great for the gardens that my daughters and I have planted -- in the gardens, our peas, sunflowers, lettuce and cucumbers have sprouted, and the basil, oregano and tomatoes I've planted are doing well. Also, the yellow roses in my front yard have started to bloom, so I'm happy about that! Weeds and More Weeds What has not been so great is that all the rain has encouraged the weeds to grow in the planting bed in my home's front yard -- I am sure our neighbors hate our weeds! We're Continue reading...

I Declare a Squirrel War!
As I've posted before, my daughters and I have been enjoying watching beautiful goldfinches feed from a birdfeeder we've added to the backyard. My kids like watching the birds so much, that my husband has purchased a set of binoculars for each daughter. I first bought a simple net feeder and filled it with thistle seed for the finches, and soon had plenty of finches in the backyard. But within about a week, the squirrels discovered the net feeder, chewed holes in it, and emptied out the seed. Darn rodents! I vowed to keep the squirrels away from my birdfeeder. So, I purchased a Continue reading...
Guest Post: Readying a Newborn’s Nursery
Before my newborn arrived, I had to make a great many choices as an expectant mother about the future care of my child, as any new mother does. A mom-to-be must make decisions about how best to immunize her child, how to save money for his or her future, whether or not to take advantage of umbilical cord blood banking, and countless other important decisions. Baby Decor One important and probably the most fun task of becoming a mother-to-be for me was equipping and designing my baby’s nursery. In the abstract, designing a nursery seems to consist of little more than setting up a crib and a Continue reading...

So I was saddened today to learn that Sendak has passed away today at the age of 83. As a child, I loved the intricate illustrations in the book. I enjoyed how Max, the little boy in the story, used his imagination to transform his room into a wild world filled with interesting monsters of all sorts when his mom sent him Continue reading...
