Although it's officially spring here in NJ, it doesn't quite feel like spring yet. But luckily, I've noticed a few signs of spring here and there! One sure sign that spring is coming is that spring decor and gardening items are starting to pop up in local stores. I always like to hit the dollar spot area at my local Target. There I snapped the above photo -- I love the adorable "grow" sign and the Continue reading...

Christmas is one of my favorite holidays -- I love the special time that I get to spend with family and friends during this season. But as someone who loves to garden and play in the dirt year-round, this season and the approach of winter can make me sad! I know that it will be several months before I will be gardening again. That's why I love the idea of Continue reading...
Planting a Fall Garden — 12 Months of Goals
*This post contains Amazon affiliate links. If you click on an Amazon link and make a purchase, I earn a small commission that helps fund this blog. Thanks! Once a month, my blogging friend and I, Carrie of Curly Crafty Mom, get together to each share a personal goal for the month. We’ve found that setting personal monthly goals really help in getting things done! My goal for August will be to set up and fence in my backyard's two raised garden beds. I didn't get a chance to start a summer garden this year, so I'm hoping to plant a fall garden instead! I've never planted a fall Continue reading...

A Sunny Perennial Flower Garden
Ever since we moved into our home about 10 years ago, I've wanted to plant a a sunny perennial flower garden on the south side of my home. That side gets plenty of sun, offers some privacy and sits just under our living room window. If I planted a flower garden there, I figured, my family and I could just look out the window and look at the beautiful flowers. Several years went past, and my sunny perennial flower garden didn't materialize. After all, starting a new garden is a lot of work! There is sod to be removed, soil to amend/improve, flowers to plant and mulch to be applied. I've Continue reading...
Starting a Flower Garden
Hi, everyone! Hope you are enjoying your spring! Here at Mom Home Guide, I've been busy. The weather has been so nice, that I've been spending much of my time outdoors working on the yard. I finally got started on a flower garden that I've wanted for years! Starting a Flower Garden for the First Time On the southern side of my house is a swath of lawn that separates my family's house from our neighbor's home. That strip of lawn drives my husband (and probably my neighbor, too) crazy because it constantly fills up with weeds! I've always thought that placing a garden on that side of the Continue reading...
Springtime Gardening
The weather was so nice here in New Jersey yesterday, that I just had to get outside and start some springtime gardening! The first thing I did was prep one of my backyard's raised garden beds to plant some peas. We hadn't planted our peas until yesterday because until then, we've had unseasonably cool weather, so I was afraid to plant them! To prep the raised garden, I weeded, loosened up the existing soil with a sturdy rake and added a layer of new topsoil from the garden store. When the kids got home, we dug a few 2-inch trenches for the peas, and planted our peas! From some Continue reading...
Planting Peas in a Vegetable Garden & Giveaway
The other night I was treated to a great dinner at a Mexican restaurant with my good friend, Lela, her family, and my husband and kids. I've known Lela for more than 20 years, and she has become like a sister to me! She noticed that I was wearing the lovely charm bracelet she gave me a few months ago for my birthday, as well as a two-peas-in-a-pod green and silver charm that I've added to it. She noted that she loved my "gardening" charm. I bought the charm to symbolize my twins, but it really is a great charm to represent the gardening that both Continue reading...
Readying a Spring Garden
Spring has sprung, so on Sunday, I prepped my flower and vegetable garden beds. With the weather so nice, my kids wanted to play outside, so I decided to hit the garden store in the morning, so I could work on the gardens while they played. The first thing I did was add mulch to our front flower bed. We already have a few blooms coming up for spring – in that garden bed we have tulips, daffodils and hyacinths – and I want to keep the weeds down once the flowers start flowering. I bought two bags of mulch, but it wasn’t enough to cover the garden bed, so I’ll be back to the garden store Continue reading...
My Favorite Things Lately
I received free product in exchange for my review. Happy Monday, everyone! Today I am sharing a few of my favorite things. I have been very busy these days and haven't been able to blog much, so I thought I could share a bit about what I have been up to. Cozy Throw Blanket - Great Amazon Buy My kids and I love to sit underneath soft throw blankets when we watch TV in our family room. Sometimes our pup steals one of ours when he's looking for a soft place to sleep. So luckily I got a new plush throw from Amazon (for about $28) for our sofa so there will be enough blankets for Continue reading...
