Now that my kids are tweens, I really have been wishing that I could remodel our basement into a clean and fun basement rec room. I don't know if I'll ever be able to create this dream space in my home, but I created this wish list of basement rec room must-haves anyway! I'd also love to hear what you think are essential items for a basement rec room space! Basement Rec Room Essentials 1. Colorful Artwork. Touring Through Blogland

written by Lauren

blog, tour

Happy Monday! I'm excited to be asked by Kimm of Reinvented to participate in the Tour Through Blogland! I don't know how the tour got started, but it's a lot of fun! Each Monday, a blogger shares a bit about herself, her blog, her projects and her home. Then she invites other talented bloggers to share a bit about themselves the following week. The blog tour is a terrific way to meet other fantastic bloggers and find new inspiration!   Kimm and I met at the Haven blogging conference in July, and I am so excited that she has invited me to participate in the blog Continue reading...

Family Travel

new jersey day trips

Like many families, my family enjoys taking family trips together. Like many families, we often look to travel on a budget. That means that my family does a lot of local travel, but we find plenty of places to explore! My husband, kids and I just visited Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in the Poconos Mountains in Pennsylvania! The resort has multiple water slides, a lazy river and an indoor/outdoor hot tub! There is also an arcade, restaurants and shops. We had a great time!   This summer, my family took a trip to the Hope Lake Lodge near Ithaca, NY! It was a wonderful Continue reading...

Hot Shot® Insecticides Giveaway

written by Lauren

farmhouse, kitchen, mom home guide

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hot Shot® Insecticides. All opinions expressed in this post are 100% my own. My husband and I used to subscribe to a regular pest service. It was great: Whenever I saw an ant, spider or any kind of bug in my home, I picked up the phone, called the pest service, and the bugs were gone. But that peace of mind was pricey and cost hundreds of dollars a year! Now getting rid of bugs in my home is my husband’s and my job, so I am so glad that I found Hot Shot® Insecticides, especially Hot Shot® Ant & Roach Plus Germ Killer Fresh Floral Continue reading...

David Bromstad / Coffee-Mate Giveaway

written by Lauren

coffee, mate, morning, coffee

I just adore designer David Bromstad from HGTV's Color Splash. I love the way he adds beautiful and bold colors to all his Miami makeovers! I wish I could be that bold! He's also a fun and talented artist, which is evident in the limited edition coffee creamer bottles (French Vanilla and Hazelnut flavors) that he designed for Coffee-Mate, which are available exclusively in Target stores nationwide. I recently picked up a David Bromstad Coffee-mate bottle of Hazelnut and a David Bromstad Coffee-Mate bottle of French Vanilla at my local Target. I have been using my new David Bromstad Continue reading...

Win a Febreze Prize Pack & a $60 AMEX Gift Card! EDITOR'S NOTE: A winner has been chosen for this giveaway: Cynthia R. Congratulations, Cynthia! “This review and giveaway was made possible by Double Duty Divas and Febreze. I was compensated for my participation in this campaign, but all opinions are 100% mine."  My kids love the Febreze #Noseblind commercials on TV -- the ones where they lead unsuspecting folk blindfolded into a gross, stinky room, and the people think they are in a great place because it smells wonderful! So when I was given the chance to try some of Febreze's Continue reading...

If you have a small kitchen like my home's kitchen, finding enough storage for everything can be tough! written by Lauren

“This review was made possible by Double Duty Divas and Dawn. I was provided the featured product free of charge to facilitate my review, but all opinions are 100% mine." June has been a very busy month here at Mom Home Guide! My twin girls are graduating elementary school this year (time has flown!) and there is so much to do, what with graduation events and parties, and normal end of the year stuff like school trips, school concerts and events and dance and music recitals. So whenever there is a chance to simplify my daily routine, I am all for it! One thing that I do daily Continue reading...

Psychology of Paint Colors for the Home

written by Lauren

A friend of mine has a red dining room, while I have a yellow kitchen and a green bedroom. Red is a popular color for dining rooms, while yellow is a common kitchen color. I am not sure how popular green is as a bedroom color, but I am sure I'm not the first person to choose the soothing hue for bedroom walls! Do you ever wonder why certain colors get chosen for certain rooms of a home? The Painters of Louisville have the answer! They have a fun infographic that explains the "psychology of color" and why certain colors are good choices for specific rooms. For example, red is a good choice Continue reading...
