a beautiful DIY lighted wine bottle decorated with snowflakes

I love decorating for Christmas and crafting! Today, I am sharing how to make an easy and beautiful DIY lighted snowflake bottle. It makes a great gift! Plus, at the end of this post are also some amazing DIY gift ideas from my blogging friends.

DIY Lighted Snowflake Wine Bottle (Homemade Christmas Gift Idea)

I have always loved beautiful glass objects. I seek out things like paperweights and glass ornaments, for instance. I love the look of pretty cobalt blue glass. I recently discovered Krylon Sea Glass Spray Paint in Cornflower and love it! I used it for a DIY lighted wine Halloween bottle that I made. When this spray paint is sprayed on glass, the glass remains translucent and has a bright blue color! It looks like the glass was originally blue!

DIY lighted wine bottles are a wonderful craft and homemade Christmas gift idea. These lighted wine bottles are thrifty, beautiful and can be customized to fit the person you are gifting! The lighted snowflake wine bottle I made can be given to almost anyone. I am also planning to make a bottle along the theme of the Christmas movie, Elf, which I love! The Halloween lighted wine bottle I made is based on the movie, Corpse Bride, which I also love!

Krylon Sea Glass Spray Paint in Cornflower

White Snowflake Window Clings (These are the ones I ordered. I received more than 200 vinyl stickers. I will be looking for more crafts to do with these!)

Empty Clear Glass Wine Bottle (I purchased mine on Amazon. I didn’t have a nice empty clear wine bottle on hand.)

Mod Podge (I wanted the clings to be permanent, so I glued them on.)

Stencil Brush (to brush on the Mod Podge)

White Satin Fabric Ribbon (I had some on hand, but this is similar.)

Large Jingle Bell Ornament (I had one on hand, but these would work, too.)

Warm White Starry String Lights (These are the ones I used; they are battery operated.)

Lighted Wine Bottle Directions

The first step is to spray paint a clean and dry clear empty wine bottle with Krylon Sea Glass Spray Paint in Cornflower. (I spray painted mine in the backyard.) I spray painted two extra wine bottles – one to make a Coraline themed lighted wine bottle for my daughter, and another for the Elf movie lighted wine bottle I want to make for myself.

Let your wine bottle dry (I just left mine out in the sun in the backyard for 2-3 hours.)

Once your wine bottle is ready to work with, you can use the Mod Podge to glue the snowflake vinyl clings to the spray painted wine bottle. I simply used the stencil brush to brush on the Mod Podge and then placed the vinyl snowflake clings onto the bottle. Mod Podge dries clear, so I didn’t have to worry about it showing.

There wasn’t any real pattern to how I placed the vinyl clings. I just did whatever I thought looked best. My fingers got a little messy during this process. You might want to keep a wet rag or paper towel nearby to clean Mod Podge off your fingers as you work.

Once the bottle was decorated with the vinyl snowflake clings and the Mod Podge was dry, I hung my large jingle bell ornament from the neck of the wine bottle. I then used my white satin ribbon to tie a simple bow onto the neck of the wine bottle.

After that, all that was left to do was add a string of fairy lights! I carefully snaked a battery operated string of fairy lights into the bottle. I added two AA batteries to the lights’ battery compartment and switched on the lights.

I am happy with how this DIY Christmas gift craft turned out! I think it will be a nice addition to my family’s Christmas decor.
