written by Lauren

fridge, washi tape, valentines, day, countdown

*This post contains affiliate links. My kids and my husband went out shopping on Saturday -- my birthday is this week, so they went out shopping to find me some birthday surprises! So, while they were out, I decided to create a surprise of my own for them! I decided to create an easy and inexpensive Valentine's Day countdown for the fridge so we can countdown the days until Valentine's Day! My kids had so much fun with the Christmas countdown that I created for them this past Christmas that I decided that it would be fun to have a countdown for Valentine's Day, too! Supplies I decided Continue reading...

Free Printable Chore Charts

written by Lauren

kids chore chart

If you have kids, you might be thinking about giving them allowance. If so, the new year is a great time to get a chore chart in place and to figure out how you would like to reward your children for completing chores. My tweens have been wanting an allowance, so I created a chore chart for them earlier this school year. The chart includes simple chores I think tweens could handle, like picking up their rooms, putting laundry away, tidying up their bathroom and setting the table. Click this link to download your own free copy of the tween chore chart. For those of you who have Continue reading...

Mini Korean Bibimbap Bowls

written by Lauren

minute rice

Thank you to Minute® Ready to Serve Rice for sponsoring this post and helping me to make a healthy snack for my kids that they love! Happy 2015, everyone! My husband is of Korean heritage, and he, my kids and I love to eat Korean food! We love everything from kalbi (grilled and marinated beef) to chop chae (mixed vegetables with beef and noodles). Korean food is a highly savory and flavorful food, so it's no surprise that it's become popular in international fusion foods like Korean tacos! (Korean tacos is another family favorite.) My kids love to eat Korean dishes Continue reading...

Oral B Pro-Health 3000: A Christmas Gift for Tweens

written by Lauren

oral b pro health 3000 toothbrush

Now that my kid are tweens, I've found it tougher to find gifts for them that will go the distance. You know, gifts that will be liked and used for more than just a few days. (Tweens can be fickle!) So this year, I've already gifted them with the Oral-B Pro-Health 3000, and they love it! Healthy Christmas Gift for Kids This year I started a new tradition: For the 25 days leading up to Christmas, I let each daughter unwrap a gift. Each gift is marked with how many days there are until Christmas. Most of the gifts I've been giving are useful things that they can use everyday, like the Continue reading...

#OurLand: Work To Protect Open Spaces

written by Lauren

Red Maple Leaves

My kids' lives, like so many children's  lives these days, are very scheduled. They have after-school clubs and activities, plus their music lessons in nearby Princeton. So, when my kids have the chance to run around and play, they love it! My kids and I adore taking trips together to the many local parks in our area. That's why I am joining the Trust for Public Land's movement to create and protect parks right in our own backyards. This is the TPL's mission: "The Trust for Public Land creates parks and protects land for people, ensuring healthy, livable communities for generations to come. Continue reading...

No Sew DIY Curtains

written by Lauren

no sew curtain tutorial

*Thanks to Premier Prints for supplying the fabric for this project! This post contains affiliate links. I have always found it difficult to find the perfect curtains to fit my style and my space. Not to mention trying to fit my daughters' styles! So, when my  daughters' both got new bedrooms this past summer, I decided that I would make custom curtains for each of their rooms. (My kids had been sharing a room until then, and are excited about decorating their new rooms!) One of my daughters picked a coral and pink color scheme for her room. She has a beautiful warm soothing orange color Continue reading...

Upcycled Glass Jar & Pom Pom Flowers

written by Lauren

yarn flower and vase decor

My kids and I are big believers in recycling, so we are eager to celebrate National Recycling Week! I am always holding onto used spaghetti sauce jars for crafts, and have lots of yarn on hand. So, my daughters and I decided to create a yarn craft using one of our recycled glass jars and some yarn we had on hand. We also created some yarn and chopstick pom pom flowers for our upcycled glass jar project -- house plants don't seem to do well in our house! We get Chinese take-out fairly often, so we often have some chopsticks around. Our project was inspired by a Continue reading...

Book Review: From K-Pop to Kimchi

written by Lauren

book, review, Korean

Korean food and music have become popular in American culture. Kids are dancing to "Gangnam Style" by Korean pop artist, Psy, and folks from Los Angeles to the New Jersey shore are enjoying spicy-sweet, Mexican-Korean fusion food concoctions known as Korean Tacos. The explosion of Korean culture on the American scene has been fun for my family, as my husband and my kids share a Korean heritage -- my husband's parents emigrated to the U.S. in the 1960s. So when Tuttle Publishing, which offers books on Asian culture, gave me the chance to review some of their books, I jumped at the chance. A Continue reading...
