By Becky Flanigan I remember when we first got our family pool. It was a glorious experience to watch the kids jump in for the first time. Over the years, we’ve learned a lot about pool maintenance – the right ways to do things, and from some painful experience, we found out a couple of wrong ways to do things. With that hard-won experience, I can pass along some thoughts for people who are getting a pool for the first time. Here are the most valuable four maintenance tips I can think of: 1) Don’t neglect the upkeep. We thought having the pool was a great idea, but the first year or Continue reading...

DIY Flower Tower
This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Miracle-Gro for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine. Now that spring is here, I’d like to add some color to my home’s patio and backyard. Just the other day, I picked a project that would give me quick results, since I wasn’t up to putting in the hours and work that would be required for me to start a flower bed in my backyard. I’ve been noticing a lot of great flower tower projects by other homeowners across the Web and on Pinterest, so I thought I’d give it a try! Flower towers take gardening to new heights for even novice gardeners Continue reading...
How to Make a Fringed Burlap Table Runner
I am so excited -- today I am guest posting for the mom blog, 5MinutesforMom! This Canadian mom blog is a great place for moms and features everything from DIY and craft tutorials, to giveaways to recipes. For 5MinutesforMom, I wrote about a very fun DIY craft I did for my home's dining table. I've been noticing that burlap decor is everywhere these days, from stenciled burlap to painted burlap, so I decided to do a burlap craft project of my own. DIY Fringed Burlap Table Runner My home's dining table is very long, so it's been difficult to find an inexpensive table runner for it! So, Continue reading...
Pretty and Simple Curtain Trim
A year or so ago, I purchased long room-darkening curtains for my home's master bedroom. The room faces east, so as the sun comes up, it gets extremely sunny in that room! As my husband and I tend to be night owls and frequently stay up late, we don't appreciate that morning sun too much, as it wakes us up earlier than we would like! (LOL!) Luckily, the room darkening drapes do a really great job at blocking out the sun and keeping our room nice and dark until we are ready to get up. Dressing Up Curtains with Ribbon Unfortunately, however, I chose an earthy brown color for Continue reading...

I’d really like to thank Ginger of Ginger Snap Crafts for inviting me to co-host her anniversary Wow Me Wednesday Linky Party! It’s been so much fun, and I’ve been enjoying meeting some of the other bloggers! I’ve been having a great time reading all the great DIY ideas, crafts and recipes that the other bloggers have submitted. I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorites links! DIY Chalk Paint Chest I really like the Chalk Paint Chest from Rain on a Tin Roof. To make her chest, Jenna took a in-need-of-TLC dark brown dresser and sanded off the paint. She painted Continue reading...

Mom Home Guide House Tour
I just love looking at online house tours of other mom bloggers' homes. One house tour I recently saw was that of blogger Jenna from SAS Interiors. I just love how beautiful her home looks, from her tidy and clutter-free foyer, to her modern kitchen with beautiful wood floors to the serene master bedroom. I wish my home was so masterfully designed! To me, my home is a work in progress. Over the past few months, I've completed a few home improvements, like making our home's mudroom/foyer area more functional, creating a fun study/media/play space for the kids and adding Continue reading...
How to Organize Kids Rooms in Your Home
You might have noticed that I write a lot about making my family's home a more beautiful and organized space for my kids. I've written about children's furniture that add storage to a kid's room, how to organize children's toys, how to convert a basement into a fun and organized playroom, and how I turned a large upstairs hallway into a fun media and study space for my children. Needless to say, I've done a lot of research into how to organize kids rooms in a home! Ideas on How to Organize Kids Rooms Are you looking to organize kids rooms and kid-friendly spaces in your home? Check out the Continue reading...
What’s New on Mom Home Guide
Here at Mom Home Guide, I've been getting ready for spring with Easter Crafts, an Easter giveaway, some decorating for the kids and some spring gardening! Check out what I have been up to! Crafting a Simple Easter Flag I am always astonished at how much it costs to purchase small decorative garden flags — most cost at least $10. So recently, I’ve taken to making my own garden flags. I don’t even have to travel to a local craft store to get the fabric — I’ve been purchasing fabric for my garden flags from my local Walmart, which has a fabric section.
