As you may remember, I participated in the NRG Residential Solutions Learn & ConserveSM Blogger Challenge and a Nest Learning Thermostat Giveaway with a few other local bloggers in January. Our challenge was to see which blogger could conserve the most amount of energy last month (January). To my surprise, I WON!! Winter Energy Saving My husband and are usually fairly frugal with our energy use – we try not to turn up the heat too much in the winter, we set the thermostat lower at night, and I rarely use the oven – I mostly do my baking and cooking in our Black & Continue reading...

Framed Valentine’s Day Collage
Since I broke my wrist just over a week ago, I haven't been working on many projects - I've mostly been icing and resting my wrist, which now has a metal plate and 12 screws in it, thanks to my lovely mishap! Sigh! But my hubby and kids have been so sweet to me (they are the best!), that I just had to show my appreciation! So when I was doing a mini shopping trip at my local Walmart the other day, I picked up some supplies in their crafting section to make an easy and quick framed burlap Valentine's Day collage. Making My Valentine's Day Collage The collage is about the only thing Continue reading...

West Elm Yellow, Brown and Gray Living Room
I am hoping to redecorate my home's living room, and I am so excited! For my Christmas gift, my husband made me a popsicle stick sofa (so cute) and said I could go shopping for a sofa. I can't wait! I've done a little shopping so far, and at the moment, I am crushing on West Elm! I love their modern color schemes and their small-scale furniture, which should work for my small living room. I am loving a yellow, brown and gray color scheme. I have my eye on the Paidge sofa. Isn't it cute? At 72.5"w x 38.5"d x 34.5"h., I think it would fit well in my home's small 20 foot x 10 foot living Continue reading...
2013 Year in Review
Happy 2014, everyone! I can't believe that 2013 is over! Last year was a busy one here at Mom Home Guide. So, before launching my new projects for 2014, I am going to share the best of what I accomplished in 2013! Here is my 2013 Mom Home Guide Year in Review. Burlap Crafts Burlap was popular in 2013, so like many crafters, I jumped onto the burlap bandwagon in 2013. It was fun! Two of my favorite burlap crafts I completed was my stenciled no-sew burlap valance for my home's downstairs powder room, and my no-sew fringed burlap table runner. Both projects were problem solvers, as I was having Continue reading...
7 Christmas Advent Calendars
I just love advent calendars. Since I've created my gift box advent calendar for my kids, I've been noticing other really great advent calendars from other blogs. I'd love to create one of these other advent calendars and add to the fun my kids and I have been having with our advent calendar! Gift Box Advent Calendar To create my family's advent calendar, I gathered some of the mini gift boxes I've saved over the years. I used some scrapbook paper to decorate the boxes, and either hand numbered them or used number stickers to number each box. In each box, I placed special treats Continue reading...

Christmas Decorating
My Recollections ornament boxes makes unpacking the Christmas ornaments so much easier. It snowed here in New Jersey yesterday. My daughters were so excited! I am trying to wait until after Thanksgiving to decorate for Christmas, but I know at least one of my daughters would like to start decorating for the Christmas holiday NOW! Especially since the snow has put them both in the holiday spirit -- one of my daughters has been wearing a Santa's hat to bed every night already! Christmas Organization Thanks to some organizing I did just after last Christmas, Continue reading...
Thankful Banner – Giving Thanks
As busy moms, we can sometimes forget to take the time to think just how much we have to be thankful for. We get so wrapped up in our families' busy schedules, that we don't take a moment to step back and look at the big picture. So, as Thanksgiving nears, I wanted to start a project for my family that will not only add some fun holiday color to our home, but will help us to realize how lucky we are to have each other, our home, our kids' school, our community, and more. Thanksgiving Thankful Banner I've seen Thanksgiving thankful banners on Continue reading...
