Being a blogger is sometimes like wandering through a forest in the dark, not knowing where to go or how to get there. At least, that's how I felt when I first started blogging! That's why I am so excited to share the blogging ebook, Building a Framebook, by Abby Lawson of Just a Girl and Her Blog. Even though I have been blogging for more than two years, I purchased the blogging ebook a few months ago, and Continue reading...
Pom Pom Holiday Wreath
What do you do when you want to decorate for Christmas, but it's not Thanksgiving yet? You craft a "transitional" holiday wreath that would work just fine as a Christmas wreath but can serve as home decor for just about any other time of year, as well. That was my thinking when I created my Holiday Pom Pom Wreath. Today is the first Thursday of the month, so that means I am sharing one of my home decor tutorials at Ask Anna! Stop by Ask Anna for my full tutorial on how to make this fun and fluffy wreath! The tutorial also includes detailed instructions on how to make pom poms. I shared Continue reading...
Should You Go Solar?
What does fall weather make you think of? I think of fall leaves, hayrides, pumpkin picking and fall home decor! But I also think of chilly fall nights and rising home energy bills! It makes me want to put on a pair of fleece PJs and hide under some warm covers! I'd love to find a way to reduce my home's energy bills this fall and upcoming winter. My husband and I have already installed an energy-efficient furnace, an energy-efficient Nest Learning Thermostat and replaced some of our windows with energy efficient ones. We also do little things to conserve energy like turn down the heat Continue reading...
Back to School Mud Room Area
With fall and winter upon us, and the school year into full gear, having a family mud room is essential. I know one is needed in my house! We need a place to hang our coats and drop off our sometimes wet and muddy shoes. My home isn't very large, and we don't have a coat closet by the front door, so we have created a "mud room" out of a small space. This is what I have found helpful to have in our "mud room" space: 1. Easy-to-Clean Floors: Tile flooring is great for a mud room floor, since it's easy to clean and durable. My mud room area just inside my home's front door Continue reading...
Scrapbook Paper Art Gallery Wall
*This post contains Amazon.com affiliate links. I am going to the Haven Conference this week, so I have been very busy packing and getting ready! But before I leave for the conference, I want to share with you what I did with the framed scrapbook art I created – I made a new gallery wall for my newly furnished living room! I'd love to show you how to create your own gallery wall! I just love how my new living room came out! The room used to be pretty much empty and only housed a piano and two toy chests. Now, it's a spot where my daughters and I like to sit and read, or look out the Continue reading...
Summer Patio: Hot Shot Insecticides
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hot Shot® Insecticides. I love summer, but I don't like the increase of bugs and insects it brings to my home! It's as if summer signals vacation time to the critters, and my house is their vacation home! So, when I was offered the chance to try out Hot Shot® insecticides, I jumped at the chance! I don't want those pests to make my patio their home sweet home! My husband and I put in a really great paver patio a few years ago. It's a wonderful place for our wrought iron patio set and for our new Weber gas grill -- I am becoming a bit of a Continue reading...

Prep Your Outdoor Spaces for Summer
Editor's Note: I am working on some new projects for the blog today, so I thought I'd share this post from Mom Home Guide's archives. Many of these projects are on my to-do list for this year: I really need to paint the Adirondack chairs and I have to plant my flower tower for this summer! I am a HUGE fan of Sarah, who runs the Thrifty Decor Chick mom / home decor blog. I want to ready my outdoor spaces for summer entertaining, so I decided to check out her blog, Thrifty Decor Chick. Sarah has an incredible eye for design and is a fantastic DIYer! Plus, her home is beautiful! Continue reading...
Mason Jar Succulents
A few weekends ago, my family and I were invited to a wonderful backyard barbecue with good friends. Three of my great "mom" friends were there, so I decided to make them all personalized gifts. I made a potted succulent plant for each friend -- I planted the succulents in pretty green mason jars. I think this gift is wonderful for anyone who adores plants. Potted succulents also make for lovely teacher appreciation or end of the year gifts! This gift might even please some dads for Father's Day! I found some great succulents at my local Wal-Mart store. Succulents are hardy plants that have Continue reading...
